Noob looking at used 4x4 F150's

Howdy guys. Noob to the F150 here. I currently have a 2007 Fx4 Diesel F250 I'm looking at selling/trading and had some Q's about the F150's. I'm looking at 06-07 Fx4 or 4x4 Lariats. Super cab or Cre cabs. Under 30k Miles, but preferably under 20k miles. 5.4, auto etc.

1- How can I tell what ratio the truck has? 3.55 vs the 3.73 and how do I know if it's LSD. (assuming the FX4 comes standard with LSD?) so the LSD part applies to the 4x4 Lariat.

2- What's up with this spark plug issue? Some folks are telling me to make the dealer take the plugs out and anti-sieze them. is there a year they "fixed" this? IS there a need to requet this on a 25k mile 06 (for example)

3- Is there a way to pull the maintance/TSB/recalls specs for a specific F150?

And any other tips would be great. I've owned a early 90's Toyota 4runner I turned into a rock crawler with a Dana 44 swap, 37's, Detroits F&R and the whole 9yds. Even had a 3" gas tank lift. Really would like a Xcab FX4 with a regular 6.5' bed. and maybe go 1 tire size bigger, or 33x12.50's at most. NO M/T tires.. only AT's. Just to give you a heads up on what my expetactions are. and No lifts, or any of that stuff. my Super Duty has a 4" skyjacker and 35x12.50 on 20's. Monster truck. Cool, but daily is taxing. So at most I'd put the biggest AT tire on the Facotry wheels that you can fit w/out a level kit.

Welcome! I will try and help with some of your questions.

1. Trucks will limited slip diffs will have a letter/number code on the B-pillar. Were as trucks with open diffs have just number codes. Example, my truck has a 3.73 LS which is code B6. If you find a truck with this code it will have 3.73LS.

2. The sparkplug problem is where some plugs will seize into the head and if you don't flow exact steps you can break the plugs off in the head. IMO, it is not anything to worry about since the plugs are 100,000 mile item. And since most people don't keep vehicles that long not big deal. Ford did also redesign the plugs, but I forget when exactly they did this, I think it was just in the last year.

3. Ford does have a system that a dealer can print off for you that will show any and all times that the truck was in for warranty work and also what recalls still need to be done to the truck.

Just to give you something of an idea on what you can do to your truck, with stock wheels you should be able to clear a 33" A/T without a leveling kit or anything. With a 2" or 2.5" leveling kit you can clear 35's on stock wheels and some but very few aftermarket wheels. I personally have a 2.5" leveling kit and 325/60/18's (33X13x18) on 18X9 wheels (5.5" of backspacing) and Firestone airbags in the rear. What I am running is a very popular set-up, minus the airbags, on this site. There are more pictures of my truck in my gallery, just click "my F150's" in my sig.

Good luck with looking for a truck! Also, just to warn you and your wallet, the mod bug seems to bite really hard on this site also.

Some good info bud. Thanks. Eh, Now I just have to sell/trade my 07 CrewCab FX4 diesel F250! Love my Super Duty, but it's overkill for daily driving and i drive alone so I feel goofy in that big thing. Got me a 4" skyjacker kit on it, 35x12.50's, 20's, 4" magnaflow Turbo back etc. "hunny I shrunk the F250 to F150 size". I just threw it up on autotrader.com Last night and on some forums. See what bites. I hate to sell it... really kills me, just bought it about 10 months ago. but really don't need that much truck.

No problem, glad to help.

Your current truck is almost the exact truck that I was wishing that i would have bought about 1.5 years ago, when I was doing alot of heavy towing and hauling with my 04 for work when my work truck was being used else where. But now with diesel prices here at $3.81 and gas at $3.05 I am glad that I stuck with my F150, and now that my 04 is for personal use only and not work it suits me just fine.

Eh, I filled up for $3.59 yesterday and most stations were $3.89-$3.99. It's all Hype. They were only at $4/gal for less than 24hrs. it's all phsychological. Just shop around a bit... Gas is 3.10-3.30 near us. but the MPG is not the reason I'm ridding it. Love the MPG's for the size. if i drive slow enough I can average 17mpg per tank. 50% tampa rush hour, 50% 60mph country roads. and chicks dig it. at 63mph I average 20mpg hwy lifted with 35's!

Wow it's my truck in a Superduty

That picture was taken out on the North side of the Pinellas Bayway by Ft. Desoto.

Good luck on finding your F-150
