I dunno what theyve done different with the hybrid escape, but 35mpg in a GOOD sized suv (my dad is 6'5 and has plenty of room) is amazing.
Did you consider buying an Edge? I love driving my wife's AWD Edge. It is very relaxing...the easiest vehicle to drive that I have ever driven.

Shouldn't be. You're just sitting up higher on top of the same suspension.

Same impressions of my wife's Edge. We love that thing. Wish it got a little better MPG though. Only 6K miles on it so it should be breaking in yet.

yeah i got to take one for a weekend, was very nice. Rides just about the same, a little bigger on the outside maybe? Anyways, the deal wasnt there for the edge. Plus the escape does better than the edge MPG wise believe it or not. I got 16-17 mpg with the edge...

Went to buy the Escape for the wife, except when I sat in it at 6'4" my head was half out of the sunroof and my knees where in the dash. Ended up getting her a Mountaineer, at least I can fit in it.

Yeah, our Edge is AWD and we are averaging about 18 MPG in mixed driving. We just turned over 1400 miles. It's still a baby. I love the Sync and the vista roof though.

Yeah, the 3.5L engine in the Edge does not get anywhere near the mileage of the 3.0L in the Escape. I had a Five Hundred as a loaner last week and it had the same 3.0L engine as the Edge and I was getting 22 MPG in it. I guess you really pay for that 265 HP...but it sure is fun. I give that AWD system a workout in the rain. It is very difficult to break the tires loose, even on wet pavement.

Yeah, I believe it's like a $350 or $400 option, but I got such a great deal on the truck....
