Accident & Some Questions
Accident & Some Questions
Well after seeing everyone post the pics of their accidents and thinking poor truck, well it's my turn to post the pics of my accident. I was traveling east bound on a road here in Hawaii in the center lane when some a-hole in the west bound lane decides he needs to do a U-turn directly in front of my truck. I had absolutely no time to avoid this guy. I tried to move over, but it was too late and, well you can see from the pictures what happened next.
I'm with State Farm insurance and they have been very helpful thus far. I have to find a body shop tomorrow and have it taken their for repairs. A few questions;
1. What are some of the things I should look for or ask the body shop?
2. Do the body shops replace aftermarket parts such as the lift?
3. What should I ensure is done before receiving the truck back?
Thanks

damn Chief, were you a victim of that H-1 snafoo about 3 pm yesterday at the airport exit? I almost got creamed on there while waiting my turn for over 1 hour
1. Frame Damage
2. my list would be: replace at least 2 tires and 1 rim (so have 2 pairs of rubber that at least match each other wear wise), new flares, grab a 06+ bumper with fog lights, Bull bar
3. Yep, take it to Ford. don't let them screw you over with Bondo or cheap repair parts. they are required to fix it to Fords specs...and Ford has some damn stringent specs.
in 48 other states, that guy is at fault...I know Hawaii is a no fault state though. still, his insurance should be footing the entire bill. I'd have your company take his to the cleaners to replace every single thing that is even dinged.

They may not replace any aftermarket parts. If they don't You "can"....
get an estimate at an expensive place, get repairs done somewhere cheaper, and use the extra money to get the replacement aftermarket parts.
Not too ethical but one way to get arround the b.s. red tape.
Get them to replace those wheels that you've been worrying about wtih the bad finish.
Again Front frame damage. Get you a fog light bumper. Sell me the Bull Bar really cheap so I can fix it and put it on my truck since you will be getting a new one!

The only thing that most insurance companies usually do is waive the deductible for the vehicle that was not at fault.
Sorry to hear about your crash, glad you're ok.

That right there would have me moving out of that state P.D.Q.
Are there pro's to this I'm missing.

I'm getting ready to head out and check out a couple of the body shops that State Farm gave me and some of my own. Gonna check into the dealership and see if they have a body shop cause if so that's where it'll probably go. As far as aftermarket parts State Farm said they should be replaced, about the only after market parts that were damaged were the bull bar (slightly dented on the bottom right) the fender flare and the one part of the lift. Also said that I can demand OEM parts be used in repair, which I'm gonna do.
I like the bumper with fog lights suggestion, think I'll try to swing that. Too bad the hood wasn't damaged or I'd try to get me that aftermarket hood I've been eyeing.
