My signal mirror mod (aka probably the coolest thing I've ever built)
You just destroyed mine. I was looking for a sequencer and even posted a couple threads asking how I could do this. The sequencer looks just amazing, I'm truly jealous. I also was going to do the puddle lamps, very nice work. I'm going to do everything on my next truck.

Your next truck? Did you get rid of this one?

First off, thanks everybody for the compliments. I was so happy when I finally pulled this mod off and it worked perfectly.
I'll try and answer everyone's questions so far:
2 led sequencers @ $21 each = $42
10 720mcd yellow leds Radio Shack Catalog #: 276-350 $1.79 for 2 = $8.95
2 5v voltage regulators Radio Shack Catalog #: 276-1770 $1.59 each = $3.18
75ft 22 gauge wire Radio Shack Catalog #: 278-1224 = $5.99
4 prewired white superflux leds from oznium.com (for the puddle lights) @$2.99 each = $11.96
Total is about $72, which doesn't take into account the solder, silicone, a couple crimp connectors, a little heat shrink and some double-sided tape that I already had sitting around, but it's a decent estimate.
Check the vids for some night action, I'm also posting another night vid below.
I thought about that, also debated a timed relay, but in the end I went for the simplest solution. I don't like overcomplicating circuits if I don't have too, just more things that could possibly go wrong.
These instructions were very helpful, skip to page 6: http://www.kwmuth.com/techsupport/pdfs/21000960.pdf I did it without taking the mirrors off the truck with no problems.
Here's a vid taken from 20, then 36 feet. 1mb MOV file
I wanted to stay inline with the brightness of the OEM turn signals. There are definitely brighter leds out there you could buy (Radio Shack had leds twice as bright as the ones I bought). I just didn't want to go crazy bright, but on par with the OEM turn signal mirrors.
I tapped into the dome light circuit, which is triggered by both the door switched and the keyless entry remote. They def. could have been brighter, so a third or fourth even led would have brighter. One point though is the distance to ground, and the leds lack any focus - it's just scattered light. If you could figure out a way to use a small reflector cone (like from a small flashlight or something) you could increase the led's focus and it would seem much brighter with fewer leds.
I couldn't tell you, I didn't have OEM signal mirrors so I can't say what they look like taken apart. I would think you could, if you can disassemble the piece in the mirror and put individual leds in it.
Here's the auction where I bought the last sequencer I got from him: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=110144760987 I did a search and don't see anymore, if people are interested I can PM the seller and ask when he'll be selling more.
Looks like about $72 of just parts, excluding supplies like solder, silicone, and a couple crimp connectors. Time? Too much
. There was a lot of trial and error, tests with timing the circuit, practicing drilling the holes, I would guess 25 hours maybe? But I've done all the testing now, so if anyone tried to reproduce it I would guess it would take a lot less time. I would guess this project would eat a whole Saturday, maybe trickle over into Sunday.
No, my truck didn't have OEM signal mirrors so it was not prewired. I ran wires through the door, through the console, and eventually tapped the turn signal wires under the steering wheel, and the dome light circuit behind the drivers side kick panel. This PDF http://www.kwmuth.com/techsupport/pdfs/21000960.pdf shows where the turn signal wires are and what color they are on page 10. Anyone who has installed an alarm can tell you what wire the dome light circuit is, but I think it was black w/ light blue stripe.
I'll try and answer everyone's questions so far:
How about a parts list?

Some night/action shots would be great.
you could theoretically wire it with relays or transistors that would give continous feed to squencer when the switch is in the blinker position
how did you get the front cover off? i have tried getting mine off and i feel like im going to break it every time. I know it has screws, do you have to get the glass off?
Hows the brightness from say 20-40 feet back, where a car behind you might be
the blinker don't seem bright enough
a few questions about your floods
1. what are they actuated from? the door switch?
2. how bright are they? I'm thinkin another LED would really brighten that area up.

any chance this could be retrofitted for the OEM LED turnsignals
Can you link us to an auction selling that type of sequencer?
How much time was involved in this and what did the total amount of $$$ come out to be.

Are there wires in the mirror that you tapped into, or did you have to run a new power feed from somewhere?

LED blinkers are cool, but I'm wondering how happy you are with those little spotter mirrors. I find cars get lost in my blind spot on the right side and with the high bed, even the over the shoulder look doesn't always show them. I've been thinking about picking some of those up but all the ones in the stores seem too small to see anything.
how well does that silcone how up? anyproblems with your's Josiah? i live in WI and it gets damn cold just curious if i would any problems, awesome mod
the video dont work for me? maybe its just me. anymore snow pics Josiah? i hope someday soon my truck can look just like yours but in gray.

It gets cold here in the southwest VA mountains and no problems so far.
