Talking better than 2004

I have not noticed a lot of names on here with the 2008 f150. I have had mine now for 3 weeks, give or take. So far I am getting 12.3 miles per gallon on fuel, I do like the stiffer ride of the fx4 and the 4:10 gears really seem to pull a lot harder than my 2004 with 3:73's. How many of you 2008 owners had an older model f150 before the 2008 and what are your likes and dislikes from having the new truck..I never knew satelite radio was so good.

Thanks for the comments.

My dad's is an 08, mine is an 04. Cant say much for the drivetrain since mine is modded and his isnt, but i will say the sat radio is pretty nice. The suspension on his seems to ride a little smoother too, takes bumps and potholes better.

huh? The FX4 does not come (stock) with 4:10 gears? Just the HD (heavy duty) package.

Ah yeah, something's wrong here. The 4.10 is only available on the Heavy Duty package, which is only available in the XL and XLT. Not available in FX4 trim...

Are you sure it wasn't a dealer-installed option? Do you have your window sticker that you can post? Or take a look at the label on the driver's door jamb. It should say "axle" and have a 2-digit code. What is that code?

Ratio.....Non-LS......LS
3.55.......19...........H9
3.73.......26...........B6
4.10.......25...........B5

About 2 weeks ago I did the "build and price" thing on Ford website for a 2008 FX4 with 4.10 gears. At the end it said that there were 2 at a dealer lot 20 miles away.

This is a post that he had made when he first got the truck. I was thinking the same thing that you are, but Ford has now made the 4.10's an option according to their site and this post.

Really!!! We'll I've been wrong before, this wouldn't be anything special!

But seriously, I thought that the 4.10's were only available with the HD package in XL or XLT. I'm going to have to play around with "build and price" a little.

the window sticker says 4:10 W/ Tow Pkg. and my code is b5, all this is in my 279 post on page twelve, and look as PHS's post as well.

oh, I didn't see your original post 279 before. Still I never heard of this new axle upgrade and I don't see it at all on the Ford website when I try to build a FX4. It's also not listed on the axle chart in the Ford specification PDF file:

http://www.fordvehicles.com/assets/p...ecLite_NAV.pdf

Do you know if it's an option for the Supercrews too? In theory, should you get better MPG's with the 4:10's if you drive mostly local city driving?

there is a ford builder on the 279 title page whom builds ford's, sorry dont remember his name but he did have information on what trucks this option came in. dont hold me to this but i think he said in scabs and not in screws. you probably better contact him since he had just installed one in a new truck. now on page 13, his name is, hllon4whls. send him an e mail or a pm about this.

The Ford Dealership in Carlsbad, EVERY SINGLE F150 that i looked at, 2008, they all had 4.10's...

I looked at about 15 FX4's and Lariats, the sales guy said there manager only orders F150's with 4.10's...

Right after you posted that you did the build and price off the website, I went and did it also. I was also able to build a FX4 with 4.10's then it listed that a local dealership actually had 2 of them in stock. But you are right, now I can't build the same truck again. What the heck is going on?
