Low profile tonneau covers?
 

Hey guys, I would like to find a tonneau cover for my 06 super cab, 6.5' styleside bed, that sits neatly between the bed rails and is nearly invisible from the side. I see a lot of covers that sit on the bed rails, but I just can't get used to seeing them. I don't need the cover to be 100% water tight, nor does it have to be uber heavy duty to withstand snow piled on top of it... I just want one for the fuel economy, and to have some out of site storage for items when I park somewhere. I am open to all types of covers, so long as they are not an over the rail type of cover and will fit my truck. Another consideration is that I occasionally need to put dirtbikes, or other large objects in my truck bed, and do not want to spend an hour removing my cover just to do that. What do you all recommend?

Requirements:

-Low profile (between the bed rails)
-Easy access for use as a trunk
-Easy removal for extra large items like a dirtbike or sofa

Would be nice:

-Inexpensive
-Decent weather seal
-Lifetime warranty

Can not have:

-Over the bed rail style

I have a Extang RT cover on my truck. It is about 2 and a half years old now and has been great. It keeps about 95% of water out of the bed. There are some pictures in my gallery..

I did have one problem with the cover about a week and half after i installed it where one of the clips broke. The cover still closed and worked fine with the broken clip. I called up Extang and told the guy what happened and they had a replacement part to my house in a couple of days now questions asked.

I have a the Truxedo Lo-pro on my truck, it only sticks up about 3/4"-1" above the bed rails. Here are a couple of pics, first is up close and the second is from about 25ft away.

Those certainly look durable. :thumbsup: Any idea what they cost, or where to find them? The Extang RT, and Access Lorado cover both look nice for the price.

Tonneau Question
 

First truck - 06 XLT 4X4. Thanks for the Tonneau recommendations. Can you go through the car wash with a soft Tonneau cover or should you remove it first?

Pace Edwards. It's actually a hard top with a rollup metal sliding cover. I have one, and I'd get one again when the time comes.

I've had mountains of snow on mine that would crush a typical soft fabric tonneau, and I go through carwashes all the time. No problem mon! :thumbsup:

I love the roll up hard covers, but how large is the drum, or canister that it rolls up into?

I ask because I often haul 2 or 3 dirtbikes (full-size, 250cc-450cc) and with the front tires touching the front of the bed, I am still unable to close the tailgate. The back tires are sitting in the bed, but a 7' dirtbike and a 6.5' bed aren't quite a match. :lol:

If the cover rolled up uses more than 10" at the front, my back tires will be sitting on the tailgate, and I will not subject it to that kind of weight.

I don't know off the top of my head... check PE's website, it should have specs. I think it's less than 10" though.

I'll try to take some measurements and pics tomorrow.

Thanks for all of the input guys! I bought a 5'x10' BigTex 29SA trailer today, so bed space will be less of an issue now. :thumbsup:
