4.10 gears....what would you choose?
i went with the motive stock replacement 4.10's and am very pleased. im throwing alot of horsepower through them and have done some pretty good towing and they have held up fine. i even installed them myself, so they seem pretty idiot proof. also, you cant beat the price
i was also considering the fords, but the price was the deciding factor for me...

Smokin, I've read your threads and know you're making some power so if they can hold up for you they can certainly hold up for me.
Can you recommend a place I can buy them cheap? Where did you buy yours?
Hey, also that "Road Track Video" you posted. You're doing a parade lap at Road Atlanta, right? What car club was hosting that event?

heres the link for site i purchased them from:

i believe the only other thing i had to purchase was a pinion bearing that i was able to get at autozone for around $30 or so. the mini installation kit has almost everything u need.
the event at raod atlanta was hosted by Year One and they do it every year in may. i have a friend who used to work for Year One and gets me free tickets for entry and for the parade laps. here's a link for the event details:

if youre free that weekend you should come, its alot of fun. the have all kinds of events like wet autocross, parade laps, hot laps, burnout comp., offroad stuff, mobile dyno etc. ive gone for the past 2 years and plan on it again this year

Well I've talked to a bunch of people today and I found a set of Ford OEM 4.10 gears ring and pinion set for $234.95 today. I'm willing to pay an extra $50 for the OEM stuff and play it safe this time.
Now my question is this. I've called the place that originally installed my gears and they said they would swap them out for $150. However, I've read on some other forums that a lot of people think gear whine is from the installer, not the gear.
Now, I talked to a gear and driveline place today and the owner told me that it can be hit or miss with Precision gears. He said they installed lots of sets with no complaints or no whine but he said they've also installed a good number of sets where there was gear whine and peopel complained about.
That being said, should I let the original place that put in my gears swap in the OEM ones and chance it or pay money somewhere else to installed them?

I'm having Ford Racing Gears istalled tomorrow. They are charging me $450 total for the gears and labor. That makes sense since he said it should only take 2-3 hours. I can't wait to have this done, however I am worried about a whine also.

From talking with many companies about gears most people are in concurrence that OEM Ford gears should have the least possibility of whine out of any gear because it's OEM.
I'll definitely be making the switch because I'm not happy with my Precisions.
Well, after doing some research it seems that this is one of the things that are all over. I talked to the installer and he said he has had the best luck with the Ford Gears. Supprisingly he told me the Yukon gears seemed to be more troublesome.
