Good news for AS 2.5

After all the debate I have seen on here about whether these trucks can handle the 2.5 AS, I have one that has been on for probably 58000 of my 61000 miles. I recently had the 60000 mile service done. This was done at a dealership that is actually pretty good so I trust their opinion. Anyhow, they did all their check of the suspension (my biggest concern) and said everything looked great! I honestly have never had any issues with the 2.5 AS. Maybe some just have some crappy luck. Anyhow, just wanted to pass that on to all those that question whether they should get a 2.5 AS. No issues here with 61000 miles on it.

That is good to hear. I want to put 2" AS on my truck but have been a bit nervous about it with some of the issues people report.

Thanks for the report.

Same here. I have a little over 40K here without any problem from the 2 incher. The only thing I have expected is the ball joints, but everything seems to be fine. People who complain about the CV joints don't even realize that just turning the wheel puts these joints a sharper angles than adding the AS spacer. Its a CV joint, they are supposed to operate at decent angles. Anyway, I think that the ones that have problems beat their truck off-road for the most part. Some actually have problems otherwise.

Good to hear!! Mine only has about 12000 miles with the AS on, so hopefully I will see another 40,000+ out of the balljoints before I have to replace them.

As for people having problems with wear on parts with leveling kits, I heard about that before I did the 3" kit on my 94 F150. It now has over 60,000 miles on the 3" kit and not problems yet, everything is still tight even thought I have been pretty hard on the truck.

I think it all has to do with how people treat their vehicles, how they drive, if they go off-road, ect.

I too had the front end checked out and everything looks good. 56,000 miles on a 2.5 AS leveling kit.

I've been running a AS 2.5" also for 2 years with no issues at all! Heck, my dealer is the one that installed it when I bought my truck from them! Anyway, so far so good! I'm glad I went with the 2.5" vs. the 2"

as people keep saying, it's more the way you drive than anything else.

who was it that actually had a tire fall off?

with regular driving and the occasional 4x4, the leveling kit will have virtually 0 effect on the front ends longevity. especially since the cv's don't rotate unless your 4x4

Thats sweet, good news.

does your truck ever see offroad use, or any situations where the suspension is tested/worked hard?? just curious.

I don't follow. Are you saying if you have 4wd and use it you may see problems with AS? Because I'd like to do a 2.5" AS and either AAL or larger block in the rear (I like the pitched forward look, but want a bit more height) on my '08 scab 4x4, but here in New England I use 4WH on a somewhat regular basis in the winter. Would that cause issues for someone like myself?

When useing 4WD for snow and light off-roading you will be fine.

I think what Bud was saying is that most of the people that see problems with ball joints and the AS kits have used, and some abused, their trucks off-road a fair amount.

long term yes, if your not doing any serious offroading then probably not. reason being, you're not only driving around with not so great angles (CV's and UCA's) your coilovers are longer with the leveling kit ontop of it so when your travel goes out everything extends and goes to a even worse angle then any part of your suspension was built for which will casue wear over time. most of the time you wont get that kind of wear unless you do a good amount of offroading.

i would go with a Daystar leveling kit over any other its worth the extra money. but AS is a good product.

Don't mean to change the subject or hijack or anything, but do any of you think the 2" AS will make my 285/65/18s look small? I see most leveled trucks on here running 305s or bigger

I don't think so. It would look similar to my setup.

You have 285/65/18 = 32.6 x 11.2

I have 295/70/17 = 33.3 x 11.6 and I have the 2.5" AS

More pics in my gallery.
