FRD04 install
FRD04 install
If you've seen my other thread, I'm doing some very mild audio enhancements to my truck. One is the PIE input. I removed my factory sat radio so that I could have the clean aux input of the PIE.
I'm trying to finish all of the little interior projects that I have going on, so it may take an extra weekend to finish.
Here is where I installed my RCA inputs. I basically extended them to the XLT console that I added last year. I was going to solder directly to the FRD04, but I couldnt come up with a good removable connection, so I am just going to extend the RCA's. I typically use my MP3 player in the cupholder, so this will work for me. I may also put a switch to give another input. Im not spending another $60 for a SON-AUX, so if I do multiple inputs, I'll make my own.
The console is easy to take apart, the rear bolts are 3 inches long and go through to the outside so they take a little work, but other than that no biggie. You need a 7mm and a small star bit to get the console apart to do this install.
If you notice the small screw, I added that to keep the jacks from walking out. I friction fit them and tried some gorilla glue, but it just didnt hold. The jacks are from an old CD player that I had taken apart and held onto the plugs.
I bought my PIE from ebay for $67 shipped with an rca to headphone plug and a 12v usb charger. The charger's not worth snot, but everything else is cool, so I'm satisfied.
If you can solder, run some wires under the carpet and take the console in, out and apart, you can do this.
