Just bought a H-bar grill have Q's
Hey guy's I just bought a H-grill for my 06 XLT http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...SA:MOTORS:1123 I know I saw a thread about Separating the grill form the painted trim ring anybody done this before that can give me some pointers or know the link.

You can do this, but you have to be careful not to break the tabs. I've done it and if I can do it, anybody can! :D The key is to be patient. I used 2 very small flat head screwdrivers to remove the surround from the grill. Good luck and remember to be patient and not rush it!

Thanks for the info:thumbsup:

I used a long lighter to soften the tabs and they came out pretty easy. Once it was out, you can heat them up again and bend them back into place.

Looks like the top is held on by nuts and the bottom has clips is that right any chance Anybody has Pic's

HivoltageFX4 kind of stole my thunder. He had it right. I used a high wattage hair dryer to heat up / soften the tabs so they would bend instead of break. The lighter trick MIGHT work, but I would be afraid of burning it...
Look at my gallery to see what an XLT with the H bar grille installed looks like. I did that same mod nearly two years ago... I love it! As far as the nuts go... You mean the grille shell itself is held on by nuts, yeah, it is. You need to unbolt it from the hood. The insert itself is held in with molded in clips... Those are what you need to heat up and carefully bend out of the way... Just carefully, slowly work your way around the grille, and you should, if you are careful enough, be able to remove the insert and then simply clip your new insert in, and bolt the grille assembly onto the hood and be good to go... Post pics when you are done! |
Thanks for the input guys it's been helpful. Now I have to wait till Tuesday to get my Grill
