i went to reset my trip odometer and when i held down the button i had the option to change to different zones. any one have an idea of what that does?

 

That adjusts the compass for whatever area you're in. True north is different from magnetic north, and the zone settings compensate for your location in relation to mag north.

For your location (Miami), the manual says to set zone 9.
