Flaresiders-EZ down tailgate?

Anyone with a flareside get the Dee Zee EZ down tailgate assist to fit? I bought one locally and tried to put it on but a bolt sticks out too far and it will not close. Luckily they took it back. Nothing says on the '04+ that it will not fit the flareside.Any info please. Thanx

I think that azmidget91 has the EZ down or something like it on his truck. The last time that I had contacted DeeZee about the EZ down I was told that they didn't make a kit for the flareside yet, but they were working on it. That was probably a year or so ago.

ez-downs website says it doesnt fit flaresides

i made mine work by doing the following in which i wouldnt 100% suggest doing and am not responsible for anything cause by the modifitations of your truck

that being said check this vid out
http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i7...tailgate-1.flv

ok so how i did it
first i removed the cable compleatly then the bolt holding the cable on the tailgate i switched with the other bolt that holds the latch on because that one has a rounded head and left the bolt on the bed off

then i removed the black post on the bed that the latches the tailgate, then slide the black plastic off of this bolt and cut off the thickness of the upper mount on the ezdown( like 1/8" or so) and then reattach the bolt with the shorter sleve and with the ezdown's upper mount between the bed and the plastic

then i used the ezdown lower mount like they say in the instructions

and its installed...........sort of now take a big deep breath, you may want to sit down because this may shock a few of you

ready?

close the tailgate, it should be able to close but with a little force, then reopen you will notice where the ezdown hits the tailgate, now........take a hammer and dent it in i did use a metal shaping hammer but anything would work just dont use a carpenters hammer

like i said this isnt really for everyone, not many people will want to take a hammer to their truck.....

Thanks! I might wait to see if they do come out with one for us. Although, I called them back in June and the guy was pissy to me and said to check their next catalog to see if they will have it. The only thing that I think I might not like is the hammer part. Thanks again for the info!!!
That vid is cool. I like that kind of thinking. I would also have to do the "turtle shell" first since it covers the top of the gate.
