Where the hell is the lug wrench?

Hey guys--

I'm pretty new to my F150--only had it about 6 months. I need to change a brake rotor, but I can't find the lug wrench to save my LIFE. Where did Ford hide it on these things? I've checked my user manual and it says, "use the tire iron that came with the truck ..." I would if I knew where it was!

Thanks in advance!

WHat year and model do you have. (Regular, Super, Crew Cab...?)

thevisualedge 01-07-2008 02:20 PM

2004 SuperCrew ...

xtylerx 01-07-2008 02:26 PM

under the rear seat on the passenger side....
thats where it is in scabs anyway....

thevisualedge 01-07-2008 02:31 PM

I'm not sure what a scab is ... but nothing under either of my rear seats. I feel like a retard.

In my old Crew Cab it was in the compartments behind the seat. Seat folds forward to reveal two compartments:thumbsup:

do the scabs do this as well? i realized i didn't know where the bar to lower the spare tire is the other day and my truck didn't come with an owners manual since it was used (seems like every used vehicle i've had didn't come with one)

the new ones are not like that, supercabs(scabs) and supercrews(screws) both have them under the passenger side rear seat, if its not there then the previous owner either took it out or moved it, is the jack under there?

thevisualedge 01-07-2008 02:46 PM

I don't see anything under there ... just carpet. Is it supposed to be attached to the underside of the seat? I've looked and felt around, but nothing ... I don't even see a place where the jack/iron would have been attached or stored. Maybe I'll just go buy a socket for my breaker bar. Ugh.

In my 2004 Supercab it is under the rear passenger side seat... it is wrapped up in a felt sleeve that has the lug wrench and a bunch of the extenders that you use to lower the spare tire.
This is also where the jack is fastened down. I'm pretty sure that everything is held in place by a couple straps. Do you have straps under the seat? Or any other indication that something should be mounted there like a threaded hole?

No, it's supposed to be attached to the metal frame of the jack, that's supposed to be under the rear seat mounted to the floor, on the passengers side. I would recommend getting a socket for your breaker bar as the factory tire iron kind of sucks. The only thing I use it for is pulling off the center cap.

I just keep a torque wrench in my truck... this way the lugs are spec'd tightened correctly.

It amazes me that people buy a 30K or better truck and don't take the time to read the manual!

it amazes me that someone who cant read always seems to be the one with the smart @ss remark. if you would have read the first post he says he checked his manual. by the way everything for my truck is under the rear seat passenger side.

Check directly below the flux capacitor...

J/K Its wierd that it's not under the rear passenger seat. Not even the brackets are there for the jack? are you sure it's and F150?

lariatf150 01-08-2008 11:01 AM

I imagine the previous owner removed it - or moved it. Sucks if he removed it completely and you just don't have it anymore. Like others have said, it should be under the passenger side rear seat. You can't miss it. If you see nothing there, you may be out of luck.

Bluejay 01-08-2008 11:12 AM

As others have said, under the rear seat on the passenger side, wrapped and tied in a felt cover. It is next to the jack. If you don't have it, i would check wrecking yards for one.

dbhost 01-08-2008 11:18 AM

I agree with the fact that it is VERY odd that it is not under the passenger side rear seat without even the brackets being there. Most likely you passed over it in the felt wrap, or the previous owner took it out. Unless that was a production omission, which should have been caught by any number of quality checks before it even left the factory...

If it's not there, and you went to a decent used car dealer like Car Max, go back to them and complain that there is no jack. My former roomate had the same problem with a 2003 S-10 Crew Cab and CarMax got him a replacement jack / lug wrench for that "truck"...
