So I decided to get the JL Stealthbox for my truck, but it turns out that there are two different versions. One takes up about 2/3 of the rear seat and is clearly ported. The other takes up a little over 1/3 and appears to be sealed. Does anyone know about the differences between the two and if one is better than the other? Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure that ported boxes are mainly used for Rap and Hip Hop wil sealed are generally used for Rock. I think.

 

ported boxes will give what I describe as a deeper bass. LovetheTide is right about the rap vs. rock thing.

 

sealed will give you a "tighter" bass... i have the ported Stealthbox but only because they didnot make the sealed version when i bought mine. I prefer a sealed box over a ported... but i have not been disspointed with the s.b. ported... fit and finish is awesome!

 

i was thinking about getting one of those the other day, how much do they run??

 

They cost $600. Thanks for the clarification on the difference. What would be the best option to get for listening to all types of music? (Rock, rap, and everything else)

 

if your type of music ranges, ported GENERALLY gets louder than sealed. (you have to get correct airspace sub, install....)

 

Get the ported and a good head unit if you don't have one yet. That way you can customize to different types of music.

 

2nd the ported... but be aware that with the ported you lose the mounting points for your jack and you will have to do somethign with that... have no clue about the mounting points on the sealed.
