My current truck has towed well over 6,000 lbs and I can assure you that it went over 2000 rpm. it was about 2500 rpm at 65 mph. and it has the 5.4 with 3.73 gears.

your right, you don't need the biggest V-8. I swear though that every thread that mentions motors you post how your 4.2 is the equal of the V-8. it ain't

4.2 with 3.31 gears right? less HP with high gears are not conducive to getting the job done easily. eventually yes, easily no.

anyways, I'm curious to see one of these XL Screws now myself. I wasn't aware they had power options. So what is the point of a XL Screw vs XLT Screw? Are the seats that horrible vinyl? or cloth? It just doesn't seem there will be enough of a market. oh well

It helps that I swapped out my 3.55's to 4.10's... but I have no gripes about my truck... it's got all the power in the world and more. I can burnout like any v8, and I've got excellent passing power. I've never had a semi sitting on my butt unless I wanted them to be. However, I can admit, anything below 3.55's on the v6 will be a DRAGGGGG. There is no way around it.

However, no one will convince me to sell my truck from what I've done with it already... it is truly impressive in what it can do. Not to mention the gas mileage. Since I put the 4.10s in I've been getting really good gas mileage, and towing/hauling has been excellent.

I have no need for a gas guzzling v8 when my v6 can do just as good of a job. Yeah, I can say a v8 might be a little better... but I don't need the gas mileage of a v8. Not to mention the v6 is considered an Industrial grade engine used in marine, power generation, and a lot of other industrial applications. More than I can say for the Triton series. But that's a whole 'nother story.

Personally, I found it hurtful what ATOM said... but, he's got his opinion, and I've got to respect it.

Any way you slice it... the F150 is a light duty truck... and no matter what you got in the truck, it is still light duty.

well i'm sorry that my response hurt your feelings. the post was about XL screw and if anyone had one. my opinion is that not many people are going to buy a xl screw. why did i buy a xlt screw ? well like most guys, likes to have enought room for the family, buddies, shopping, and the room is awesome. flip the back seats up and your're set. i've read the specs on the xl screw and xlt screw and there aint many things different besides cosmetic variations. i cant see many people buying them, now if they said i could have bought a dsg xl screw in september when i bought mine for like 5 grand cheaper, damn skippy i'll take one, but for a couple thousand dollars difference,(not to mention low resale) if that depends on how you want your XL optioned my point is how many guys leave their trucks stock? not many guys after being on here and seeing all the nifty things us guys do to make 'em look sweet most guys on here including myself, only have 1 truck (some of you lucky kids have a stang too ) so we buy something that has alot of room, can tow whatever we need, and have a box yet to do whatever (i know the 5.5' box aint the best, but i dont care for the 6.5' box, IMO) so all i'm saying is that if you think that the V6 they put in the XL's is a speed demon and can pull everything you got with ease (in your opinion) they go for it bud, i aint knocking ya, but dont come on a post and say my response is totally false. and then to say your v6 can do a burnout like any v8? hmm i dont know people that buy a brand new truck right away and regear it either. sure if its lifted/or for performance but to regear it to spin the stock tires better? excellent passing power too huh? did you ever have anything but a v6 in your garage? gas mileage huh? i have a 07 screw 4x4 5.4 3.55 rear end 265/70/17's bfg at's and i knock down a solid 17+ mpg on highway and city. so what mpg do you get ? how about when towing? i dont think that 17 mpg is bad at all. but no matter what somewhere someone on here will have to argue with you on something. not to mention is ever plan on lifting it.

the xl screws will be big for fleet. I have an xlt with the chrome steel wheels, if i could get the same thing XL and all i have to change is a plastic top piece for the front bumper and save a few grand id gladly do it.

Yes, I do have a truck that is a v8 right in my garages.

I get 20-22.5 mpg highway and 18-20 mpg city on my v6 F150 carrying 1200 lbs currently.

Why did I regear it?! Because I might put larger tires on it... for now, it's cool just smoking the stock tires.

I've towed abou a 4000 lb trailer with 800 lbs of tools in the bed. No issues, left me with way more passing power in O/D than I needed. No issues on hills... drove better than a lot of V8's with automatic transmissions.

Oh, and my v8 truck is a Dodge Dakota 4.7l V8 with a 5 speed. Yes, it's my summer whip... I get a nice 22-24 mpg highway and 20-22 mpg city, as long as I keep the engine revving at 1500 rpms and under, which is very easy. I love going up hills at 700 rpms in 5th.

yeah i'm sensing some horse crap somewhere here. used said that you regeared it because you might put larger tires on it. well you posted that a v6 with 3.55's is a drag. so now you regeared it to make it livable with with stock tires and when you put some meats on it, back to the slow lane. you have to be the only person i ever known to be getting good gas mileage with a v8 dakota. oh yeah and towing almost 5000 pounds and you have the overdrive on and you still had plenty of power going up hill at 700 r's, i drove dakota's before and they aint no lightning killer, i can tell ya that for sure. and i say again, you keep your xl v6, if it works for ya, kudos.

Hey now we can buy ford vinyal flooring for our super crews. I personally don't like the looks of the XL supercrews, plus you can't get a 5.4L in them.

I am pretty sure you can get a 5.4 I have seen many xl's, not Supercrews mind you, that do have the 5.4.

It's nice to see that they didn't put those POS mirrors on them.

What an odd looking combo with the chrome bumpers, fogs, and base rims, grill and running boards. Thanks for posting the pictures and for the other replies. I didnt realize they came with power windows/door locks.

I noticed that you could almost option the truck like an XLT. 6.5 box only and 4.6 only, right? Thats what I remember from the buildaford website.

i dont think that you can get a vinyl floor with the xl screw? (look on page 28 in the new 08 book) and yes you can get the 5.4 motor. that truck has the optional chrome bumper package(the one in the pic). but i dont think you can get the heavy duty payload package, weird?
