Toolboxes...Ugly or not?

Just wanted some opinions. I've got a low profile over-the-rails UWS black box ordered that should be here 12/12/07. My truck is an '06 XLT SuperCab 6.5' bed black over silver paint. I still don't know if I'll be getting the bed Line-X'd but the toolbox definately will be, inside and out, along with the rear fender wells and Ford brand 5" oval step bars.

I just can't stand not having a toolbox on my truck any longer. I've already gone the last fifteen months without one (since I bought this truck) and I miss it sorely.

It a done deal ugly or not.

Opinions and pictures of low profile boxes (especially Line-X'd boxes) would be very much appreciated.

My opinion.

They are ugly (most of them). It's your truck though and there are plenty of worse things you could do.

Just depends...are you going to use it? If it's of use to you, who cares if someone else thinks it's ugly. Functionality, then beauty in my book. I however am torn between the usefulness of a toolbox. I like tossing my dirtbike in the truck, even though I have a trailer...just because it's convenient. However, having the locking storage in the bed of my truck would be useful as well. Right now though, I have neither, just a tonneau cover...which has it's own uses as well. Aaaaargh! No best of all three worlds!

Fugly in my opinion. I have never owned one, I am a representative for Deflectashield Alluminum, yet only Chest boxes appear in my trucks.

Get a hard cover bed cover I have a Undercover and love it and buy a cheap storage bin or even a fairly nice tool box at Wally World or home Depot,Lowes. F.Y.I. I also think makes the the 6.5truck beds look better I know it does on my 07 screw.

I am in the same dilemma. I really like the low profile black toolboxes so that I could have extra storage space. But the problem is I also have a dirt bike and I am just wondering how much it would kill my bed space

And wouldn't it be nice to be able to toss all your dirtbike stuff in the toolbox at the end of a day of riding? Man I need an 8' bed! But this thing kills me enough in the downtown parking garages!

I like the functionality of one. It depends on the truck also. I love being able to know i have ****** straps, clevis, tools, and jumper cables all the time with me. Plus i think my toolbox looks good on my truck. It just depends on the truck.

My truck: Weathertech toolbox

Alright, it's almost unanimous. People think over the rail toolboxes are ugly...or at least don't add to the truck aesthetically speaking.

I agree. BUT, this truck is also the truck I use as a part-time work truck. The box I have ordered will be utilized on almost a daily basis. I have a 1997 SuperCab F150 (also 6.5' bed) that's my daily driver with a UWS chest type toolbox that's secured via homemade brackets mounted to the bed with four studs sticking up at the appropriate locations and the toolbox is bolted down on all four corners by four wing nuts with washers (I did it like that so I can remove the box quickly). The '97 F150 also has a rubber bed mat that the toolbox actually sits on. The threaded studs actually poke through the mat. It's a pretty slick set-up but you still have to climb up in the bed to get to most of the stuff in it.

I never have thought toolboxes make a truck look "better" but when you need one and you get use to having one it's a toss-up on looks vs. function. I guess if I end up regretting putting it on there I can take it off. I've already called the parts department to price new plastic caps for each side of the bed if I end up screwing them up. They are $84.84 each.

Keep the opinions coming. Even though I almost regret ordering the box this morning.

I bought one of these:

made by delta, bought on ebay for like $30. I keep my hi-lift accessories, tow strap, tow hook, spare lug nuts, rags, 8 big tie down straps, radiator stop leak, fix a flat, breaker bar with tire socket, still tons of room for other stuff.

Only reason I have one is because my stereo takes up pretty much every bit of room inside my regular cab. I made sure to get an UNDER the rail one too.

If its for looks, its totaly depends on the truck...if you really need one for a work truch though, then who cares about looks, eh?
I needed the space SOME, but still didnt want a cluster fluck hick look, so under the rails it was.

I don't have a tool box in my 04 because for me a 6.5" bed is almost to short anyway, since I haul my ATV's alot and use the bed alot also. I have a full Weatherguard set-up (cross bed and railboxes) for my 94 F150 work truck, I run them in the summer and a topper in the winter. The lo-profile models look nice on the 04+ trucks, where as I like the looks of the standard models on the older bodys (96 and older) and on superdutys.
