I just bought a KOBALT TOOL CHEST, I love it! I have a full tonneau, & did not want anything causing me to loose the tonneau, or block my rear window...I locked it in with a cargo bar...no drillin for me either.....best of both worlds.....

FreekyFX4-- I can understand the not drilling the bed part. Ive had both type toolboxes and think we share the same ideas about toolboxes. The drilling the bed part really is not that bad at all. I used some rubber plugs for the two holes I drilled in the front of the bed, and plan on sealing up the exposed metal with something better and using the plugs when I take it in and out....Just an idea though

x3...I wouldn't want to drill holes to install an over-the-rail box either. I went with the J-hooks that came with the box. I also called the dealership before I put the toolbox on to get a price on the plastic side rail caps that come with the truck from the factory in case the toolbox screwed them up ($86.86 per side was what they quoted me...can probably be had cheaper though.)

So...the toolbox install is completely reversible, I checked on that just in case I couldn't stand the looks. But like I said it doesn't really look that bad to me and it's definately convenient.

When I have my cross bed box in the truck I don't even bolt it down. I put on a new layer of what we call "topper tape" (the foam cushion tape with adhesive on one side) on the box where it rest on the bed rails every year, with that gripping and over 300lbs of tools in the box it does not move. There is actually enough weight in the box that the bed rails up front have cracked. It has never shifted on me, and I have been doing this for over 7 years.

Your post just got me to thinking...I bet some industrial strength stick-on velcro would work for securing a chest type toolbox to the bed of a truck.

What kind of box is that? The asshat at Tractor Supply said no one makes a low-pro that will fit a Screw with a shortbox.
