I am in Canada, maybe Ford US has a different policy. I will ask about this when I pick up my new truck in the new couple of months and see what the guy selling the ESP says. . .

I know I didn't get ripped off because this all went through Ford Canada and not the dealer. This was back in 04, so either there are different polices for the US and Canada, or this could be a newer initiative?

yep, when I bought mine they told me I could get a refund if I never used it. That was a selling point for me.

Great Thread - Opinions on my situation please.

This is a great thread. As I'm still contemplating the PremiumCare ESP 7yr/100,000k. But here's what my situation is:

1. My 07 F150 FX4 is babied and garaged, is driven only 6k or less / year, and is maintained impeccably. (I have another daily driver.)
2. The 07 models were given a 5 yr/60k warranty on drive train components. (3 yr/30k on everything else.)
3. Besides a home mortgage, I don't have any other outstanding debt, and am not strapped for cash at the end of the month. So an expensive unexpected repair I most likely could manage, even if it was $1,000 or more.

So would it be smarter for me to just put the money away into savings and forget about the PremiumCare ESP?

And, is it really true that in the US the PremiumCare can be fully refunded if not used before it expires?
JSB

I call B.S. on full refund on Ford ESP

I call B.S. on the full refund of the Ford ESP. Yes, you can get a full refund if you don't use it and cancel it within 60 days of purchasing the ESP. Ford calls this their "free look" policy. Beyond that, and before it actually expires, you just get a pro-rated refund.

I googled "Ford ESP cancel" and found these links:

Taken from: http://www.troy-ford-extended-warran...erService.aspx

Q: Can I cancel my Ford ESP?

A: Yes. All Ford ESP contracts are cancelable. You will receive a pro-rated refund from Ford Motor Company. To cancel a Ford ESP simply call us toll free at 1-877-339-1978.

And here:

Taken from: http://www.myfordwarranty.com/faq.php

Yes. If you cancel within 60 days and no services have been rendered you can receive a full refund. After 60 days the refund will be pro-rated by time and mileage. If you signed up for the payment plan the documentation charge is non-refundable.

And here:

Taken from: http://www.ford-warranty-online.com/guarantee

You may also choose to cancel the remainder of the contract for which a prorated refund will be given to you. An administrative fee may apply. For complete and accurate information, view your actual contract for specific details.

I have never heard of any extended warranty which covered spark plugs. When I canceled the unused ESP on my 04 F150 I got the prorated refund.

Thats it. Cancel within 60 days full refund, after that it's pro rated.

I have never bought a ESP and dont ever plan on doing so. I cant stand going in with some type of warranty and being told that is not covered. Like said above they are a crap shoot.

Esp......crap Shoot Won!

Back in '99, i bought a new ranger, and opted for the esp. had to use it 5 times! those things had the horrible vaccum operated hubs. they constantly broke, and also lost an abs sensor. 4 hubs, 1 abs sensor, 2 new cv shafts.
The dealer i took the truck too almost did'nt want to fix it. I actually had to go show their mechanics what was *******ed up, and when they said" oh, you have been off roading, we wont cover that" and i said stop selling 4wd pickups, and showing them haulin a** down dirt roads on your commercials!
Now, i do some occasional light off roading, and will probally never go and buy a new truck with an extended warranty.

The Ford ESP's are pretty straight forward. Look on their site for the items covered. Warranty's through Ford are night and day over a third party warranty. I would never recommend one. They will do everything in their power to not pay for the claim. I have never had Ford give me a hard time on items covered under their extended warranty. Rear end clutches went out twice in two years, that alone would have been $1500-the cost of the warranty.

The major parts that will kill you if broken are obviously engine, tranny, rear end, a/c components, steering rack, BLEND DOOR!! Minor things can be found at junk yards, ebay, etc. Maybe get the basic coverage.

I have the premium care! I just used it. I had to get my solenoid, vacuum assemblies, and both hubs replaced. Ford footed $500 of the bill not to mention a rental care for 5 days.. No complaints here

Was doing some research too, there are many dealers on the internet that are offering the premium care for an extra 3 years up to 75K for $1305.00. Thats cheaper than a computer module! Do a google search!

Discountfordwarranties.com

additional 3 years/75K with rental car and $100 deductable = $1205

Got to do some shopping and you'll get a decent deal!

sometimes it depends on the vehicle.

I wouldn't buy it for a work truck. But a fully loaded Lariat with 4x4 has a lot of things that could go wrong.

Look at the cost of repairing/replacing the ETAC. Or the front auto hubs.

These are all things to consider when accepting/declining the ESP.

Also, the ESP is marked-up like 100%. Not unlike undercoating, the price is negotiable.

They won't cover the most important part of my engine or the engine itself for that matter. One of the drawbacks to having a Roushcharger after 3/36.

I'm still looking to see if Roush can recommend an ESP provider.

I was speaking to a Ford ESP rep today, and she told me you can cancel the warranty any time and get a credit, but that credit can only be applied to the purchase of another Ford vehicle.

I haven't bought my Ford ESP, but I always have in the past. I'm just figuring out which way I want to go. It looks like it will be the 7 year 150,000 km package, but which package I've yet to determine.
I'm leaning towards the basic care plan at this time which covers A LOT, and Ford is offering a 0% payment plan as well. I've always purchased the premium care plan in the past, which I have on the Focus, yet to be used.
