70,000 miles on 2.5 AS's
I installed 2.5 AS levelers in my truck when it had less than 500 miles on it.
It now has 70,000 and some change. I run a 17x9 wheel and a 315/70/17 Yokohama Geolander 501's (highway tread) in the Summer and just installed BFG KO's 315/70/17 for the Winter. The truck has had absolutely no adverse effects from the leveling kit until now. When I was installing the new tires I noticed some play in the outer tie rods, so I replaced them on both sides. Less than $150.00.. Guess this proves that the levelers do not cause premature issues with the suspension the way I look at it. I had to replace them on my 2001 Supercrew @ 35,000 because one broke.. 2004 Supercrew 4x4 315/70/17's on 17x9's Roush SC (8# boost) Troyer tuned True Lightning style exhaust with X pipe 75% highway miles normally at 75mph plus 25% city |
Good post! Thanks for the heads up! I put mine on around the same milage as you. I only have around 11K now so I should be good for another 50K.
What kind did you replace the stockers with? No off road miles? |
Hi Marc!!! Good to see your truck is doing well! We need to get together sometime and catch up, plus I want to talk to you about what can be done next with the Lightning... I would like to be going faster than the current 12.37 :)

i have 50k miles and i need to change both upper control arms with balljoint, both loweer ball joints, both outer tie rod ends. all for like $500 this sux..
|
good info.. hope mine last so long. I don't like the angles the 2.5 gives on the upper balls... but your not having problems.. so I won't worry so much. Do you do any off roading? or is it all street miles? mine is all streat.
|
How do I know if I have a problem ? Will I be able to tell there is a problem while driving ? I have had a 2" AS on for about 50k.
|
I had 20,000 miles on my 2004 and ball joints were shot.
|
I don't have any problems, I installed a leveling kit (Donahoe Racing) on mine before 2000 miles, and use it every week on the ranch.

gene6136@hotmail.com Nice to hear from you my friend. Long time no see... I sent you an email this morning. 12.37 on street tires and you want to go faster ?????? Makes me wish that I would have kept my Lightning instead of buying the Cobra. We did hove some fun at 42 with them....same tunes in both and same ET's, gotta love it.. I am sure we can step yours up a little :D Talk to you soon... |
Put mine on at 18K, now have 52K, no premature suspension wear yet.

i have the 2" spacer and am good after 20,000 miles.

That's great news Marc. I put the 2" AS ( wish I did the 2.5" though ) at 200 miles. Have 42,000 now and no issues. Just had inspection done and we checked, still in great shape. Not much off roading, dozen times a year to camp for atv riding and hunting camp.

This is a great post. There's lots of discussion about the CV and ball joint angles and the long-term effects, so it's nice to see the results of real-world trials. I just ordered Rancho Quick Lifts and I'm definitely less worried about the angles after reading this. Driving habits are a huge factor, so it's good to include that detail.

I am going to have to raise the B.S. Flag for you Marc...
https://www.f150online.com/galleries...450-207335.gif I've noticed from your past posts that you do blow out a lot of B.S. See this thread: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...49#post2478049

I went from level with the 2.5 AS's, to lowered 3/5, back to leveled all within the past 18 months. The only thing I changed when going back to leveled is that I installed greasable ball joints as my originals were totally gone @ 25,000 miles with the AS's the first time....I am installing 315/70/17's this week...Just make sure you get an alignment after the install....:fyi: But then again... who knows what is real and what isn't...:coffee: |
