Tire Pressure Monitor

I just purchased a 2008 Ford F-150 with the ugly 17" steel wheels.

I purchased some aftermarket 17" wheels and need to get them installed.

The TPMS sensor is held on to the wheel with the metal band. I called the local Ford dealership and they said that it would be no problem to use the old band since the wheel sizes are the same. Do they know what they are talking about?

I have been told about 10 different things....four dealerships told me they can't be reused. 3 dealerships told me they CAN be reused if the wheel sizes are the same.

Question 2 - Will I get a beeping sound or anything...or just the idiot light if I don't get it fixed with the sensors?

Someone that knows about this please help!

Thanks!

The bands can NOT be reused, at least if they are like the 07 bands. They are crimped on. The sensors can be and should be reused.
As far as what you will get, just a light on the cluster.

The factory bands cannot be reused.

Discount Tire provided new bands for the aftermarket rims on my '08 Mustang for 3.00 per wheel, so it's not like it's a big investment to do it right and get the new bands.

I've been wondering about this aswell. I'll soon be swapping up wheels and sizes. I wonder if I could just buy new bands and sensors and have them work with my truck? Anyone got experience with this?

Does Discount Tire have them in stock? Do you know if a large hose clamp would work?

That is all it looks like!

The truck has to be programmed for the sensors. If you have 2 sets of tires you want to swap back and forth, like winter and summer tires, then you will have to have the vehicle programmed for the sensors twice a year. By Ford. At a cost of $50 to $80, twice a year. That's why I live with the light.

any high volume tire store knows how to reband ford wheels with sensors. I recently had one of my vendors reband 26" BZO Magic wheels on an 07 Harley... I am not sure but I think they use zip ties....

Then maybe you should use your extra money to get a phone instead of wheels!

I made the 150 mile trip to Discount Tire today and they had the bands in stock. The bands were $20 for all four. Mounted, Balanced, Warranty on my tires (that I didn't even buy there), New Valve Stems, Putting the sensors on my new wheels with my tires....for a total of $91.67.

Ford dealership wanted over $300. What a ripoff. No wonder they have to create their own monopolies, they are ripping people off and loosing business. So they have to force people to get products at the dealers. Bast**ds!

Thanks for all the help guys, I'll send up some pics soon.
