Weird Noise in Front

Well for the last 3 weeks about 4 times now I would be going down the road all all of the sudden the front of my truck will make this "loud dragging chain noise" loud enough you can hear it with the windows up. Well 3 weeks ago it made it from the right side today it was on the left side and as I came to a stop it made a clunk and was no more. So then on the next stop sign took off agian it was the right side this time so i thought maybe its the hubs or something so I flipped it to 4x4 the noise went away. Would this mean my hubs are going out or what? I have a powertrain warranty.

It means. more than likely, the IWE's (hubs) are not staying unlocked. Default position for the hubs is locked. With engine running and in 2wd, vacuum is sent to the IWE's and they unlock.

Well I have a limited powertrain warranty. I doubt they will cover that. I just wonder if the grinding that has already happens has damaged my hubs or is the IWE the hub? I was doing a little search and someone stated to check the fuse.

IWE (integrated wheel end) is the hub. Quite possibly there is damage to them. I would also have them check out the vacuum system to make sure that isn't what caused the original problem. Especially since it was going back and forth on which side was making noise. If the vacuum system isn't working properly, just replacing the IWE's will not fix the problem, at least not for long. If you have any powertrain warranty, it should be covered as all the powertrain warranties I have seen cover from engine to the wheel.

My 06 just did the same thing this morning on the way to work. It goes in tomorrow so the dealer can attempt for the 4th time to fix the drive line vibration. I'll have them look into it then and let you all know what they find. The bad thing is my 2000 broke down last night. I'm on a roll.

Mad the noise again the other day. Yesterday I was doing some offroading and it seemed my 4x4 wasnt working. So I got on some pavement and put it in 4x4 high and brake tourqued it and the rear end was spinning is a$$ off so IM thinking my 4x4 doesnt work becuase of this. I guess this week I will take it to the dealer. I just hope is covered under my limited powertrain warranty.

Well today gain I put it in 4high and spun the rear tires over very easy. Then once I took off the front end made a horrible clunk. I still dont think it is going into 4wd. what would the clunk be?
