The price for the reverse camera on a 2008 F150 is only $450. The same camera is $470 on an F250. It uses a portion of the rear view mirror for the display. The backup sensors are still available at $245. These options can be added to any truck.

The display shows different colored lines on the edges to indicate how close things are with Green being the farthest and red being the closest. There is also a center line on the display to help you line up with your hitch.

If you own a trailer, this is an excellent feature and I highly recommend it.

Yeah, that's a easy buy option IF you're getting a new truck. But the separate pieces after the fact is what's so pricey. OEM to A/M add on, A/M the easier and cheaper way if you want to add.

No matter what camera you choose I highly recommend it. My convincing came when I was backing out of grocery parking and an adult was to my rear and left. From the look on the adults face I felt he was looking at something or someone in front of him. My instincts told me to wait. Instincts paid off. There was a 2 year old walking behind my rig who was impossible to see. The camera would have picked up the child with no problem.
Reg where did you mount your viewer. Can you provide picture?

Thanks

Does this really aid in hooking up trailers? I know it can be a help for what is behind you, but what about accuracy of hooking up?

I went with this myself:

The clarity is great! For the price, it's hard to beat! Also, it looks really good on my Alpine W205!

Here's my back up camera mounted in my license plate Sorry for the crappy cell phone camera pix.......

and the view while driving on the freeway. Note you can see the top of the tow ball at the bottom of the screen. Makes hooking up to my trailer an easy one man job.

I have it hooked up to a switch so I can turn it on whenever I want, not just in reverse.

My camera, it's the $37 night vision on ebay, is offset and is placed where the reverse sensor would be. Do not use this location, it doesn't help at all, I cannot use it to help me reverse, nor backup my trailer because it's offset. Make sure you choose a center location, and this camera fogs up fast, would not recommend. The F250's also are getting this reverse camera system I've seen, I wish those handles would come down in price.

I have the Pioneer Rev. Camera, It also has Night Vision.

Only cost $150 I'll get some pics up.........

Here's the Camera

Here's the Reverse Shot

I set mine up with an offset, for the purpose of hooking up a trailer easier.

Where is everyone mounting there cameras? I am perticularly interested in where the cameras like the pioneer and kenwood CCD-2000 are best mounted.

I just ordered a 08 with it, you have to get the reverse sensing system with the back up camera. Can't get the camera alone, the reverse sensing can be ordered as a stand alone system.

I think I have the same camera (paid $35, w/ night vision) and mine had fogged up also. I popped the lens cover off and cleaned it and used sillicon when I put it back on and it hasn't fogged up again since. Probably been 6 or 7 months.
