'06 F150 5.4 2WD mods

Shopping for an '06 F150 2WD with the 5.4. Would like to do a few things to it once I get it. I'd like to go with a 4.56 ring/pinion, and was wondering if the Ford truck folks here on the board know if Rear End Specialties in Santa Clara, CA. would do this? They did 2 of my Mustangs years ago. Also, I'd like to lower the truck an inch or 2. Whats the right way to go regarding lowering these trucks?

And one more– any opinion on the Edge programmers for gas engines, and specifically the 5.4? Not interested in any blowers, N20 or anything like that, got to keep it reliable and worry free. I just want to wake it up a bit.

Welcome to the board . For the gears I would test one that has the 3.73s stock, you may be suprised. The 5.4 + 3.73s has some pretty good kick as is. Most people on here don't go big on the gears unless they are lifted or do some serious towing. That said- if you want gears any shop that can do a mustang should be able to handle the truck. Every thing is the same once they open up the diff. My local off-road shop handled my mustang gears just fine. Can't help with the lowering, but you can search and probably find a lot of info. As far as the Edge goes, I would highly recommend it. It has all kinds of tuning and datalogging features, 3 power options, and it gets rid of that annoying throttle lag on these trucks. You can also use the Edge to correct your speedo of you get the bigger gears. I would also recommend a air-intake kit and a exhaust upgrade to complement the Edge. That will really wake up the truck from stock and keep you happy for a little while.

I'd check out getting a custom tuned Xcal2 from www.VMPTuning.com!

I also have a 2wd 5.4L and after the initial new truck feeling wore off i decided to do some mods as well. i started with an CAI and custom exhaust. That was cool but not enough. Then i upgraded to the edge and love it. level 3 really wakes up the truck and 2 or 1 for towing. Then i decided to go to 4.10 gears as i started towing more then i previously thought i would. i love the look on some people faces as i leave them in the dust after a stop light with a fully loaded trailer. all the upgrades really complement the other, basically a multiplier affect. whatever u decide to do, you cant go wrong!!
