'04 (and newer) Owners...How's it Hangin??
Well, I'm sure this has been covered in some form but didn't see anything so here goes...
How are the new body style trucks holding up?? I ask because my dad's had two now ('04 & '07) and having the luxury of spending several weeks with a truck that's not mine, you can pick out a lot instead of a 30 min test drive. There are a lot of things superior on the newer truck over my '02, but by god there are some cheap *** things on there as well. One thing that still gets to me is that flimsy plastic gas door. I'm sure that sucker will hold up fine and be around for ever but it just feels sooo cheap. So many things on the engine/under the hood are assembled cheap compared to mine. I noticed the tranny lines going into the radiator are held in with plastic clips
instead of flared fittings like mine. Cheap rubber batter terminal cover, small battery cables. The paint sucks on most. It seems to be hit or miss if you get a paint job with enough orange peel to fill a Florida orchard. My dad got the $495 paint color option and it has two runs in the paint. WTF??? The list of little stuff like this just goes on and on...
I know the frame is awesome, the suspension is also, and the power (well...over my '02) is quite impressive. But I just have a hard time with some of the other stuff that got neglected to build this truck.
But, after spending five weeks driving my dads '07 Lariat 4X4, I'll have to admit it left me wanting a new one. I can see the potential and it for sure grew on me!!
So I guess my question is, how is the truck holding up with all the little plastic bits and pieces all over the place. I sincerely don't intend for this thread to turn into some '04 and newer bashing, I'm here to learn just incase. I've got a good list of stuff I don't like about the truck, but I've got a good list of stuff I do. Thanks for the help guys!!
Oh yea, on a side note...my dads '04 was a 2WD and the '07 is a 4 and man what a difference in the two trucks. I thought the suspension and general set up of the two trucks were pretty much the same on the new body (minus a front axle) but driving the two are night and day difference...4WD being the better! You guys agree with that or is it in my head??

My dad has an 04 2wd scab and I have an 06 4wd screw. He has just under 40k and truck drives good and no problems. Few scratches and paint peeling on the front thanks to dad's insistance of using a pressure washer to remove bugs. Peeled paint on at least 2 cars now.
The 4wd feels a little stiffer in the front than the 4x2 which is what I think about most ford 4x4's. Other than that I don't notice any difference.
