Lemon Lawing my 06 F150
Lemon Lawing my 06 F150
Well, after 4 rebuilt transmissions and 1 new transmission I'm still having issues with the transmission or something on the truck Ford can't diagnose. I'm tired of dropping it off at the dealer every 3-4 weeks while they work on the tranny for a week at a time.
I've contacted an attorney and he said I pretty much have a textbook lemon law case. I'll be asking for reimbursement of the purchase price, because I don't want another F150 until they do something with the transmission.
I've enjoyed my truck in every aspect, but I'm going to look elsewhere until Ford proves to me they can make a decent transmission.

Sounds to me like there is something else wrong with your truck causing it to eat transmissions. Doesn't sound like an issue with the tranny in your truck at all. Programming issue maybe? Bad TCM? Ford's 4 speed 4R75W may not be the fastest/smoothest shifting, most efficient tranny out there in a truck, but I would say it is better than "decent" in the transmission area. I hear of very few failures with them. Look across this forum...you will find a couple issues where the tranny failed, but I don't think it is a widespread problem.
Looks like you just got a lemon. I would lemon law it to.

Even if it is something that's causing it to eat transmissions Ford has been unable to find it. They've called in 2 experts to come and look at it and actually found a few things that were not quite to speck inside the transmission both times, or they're just saying that so they can do warranty work. So, at this point it's met the Lemon Law requirements and I'm going through with it.

However, if you like the truck otherwise, I would stick with another Ford. All makes have their issues, and you were just (un)lucky enough to get one of those lemons. Look at it this way: What are your odds of getting two Ford lemons in a row?
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Your truck is a perfect example for the use of the lemon law. It's not that the truck is a lemon or the transmissions are faulty, it's they can't figure out what the problem is (and it probably is minor). One would have thought that after the 2nd repair, they would have gone to the programming and the computer that tells the transmission what to do. A transmission is like any machine or person. It doesn't matter how good they are, they don't work right if given incorrect instructions.
I bought a new Mustang in 1965. At about 5000 miles, the automatic would not shift to third gear. They went into it 3 times, had a factory rep check it out, never could get it to last more than a week. Finally, the dealership owner swapped the transmission out of his 1966 demonstrator, and I never had a problem for the next 10 years. The weird thing, he put the transmission from my car into his demo car and it worked fine there. So, things happen.

You could try to convince your dealer to sneak in a 4R100...
But on the lighter side, I have been in the same boat as you... I had a Ford Escape that went through 4 transmissions, before I finally got sick of it and traded it. I feel soooo sorry for the poor sap that got that thing. Funny thing is, that I tried to do a Lemon Law on it, and Ford didn't even want to talk to me. Which makes me wonder why I ever came back being a "loyal" Ford customer. But I realized when I bought my F150, it was a totally different ball game. Some of Ford's products are plagued with horrendus parts and craftsmenship, and some have more care taken when they design and built them.
The craftsmenship between that Escape and my new F150, has NO relation whatsoever. That Escape felt like I was driving a plastic box around... the F150 on the other hand feels like I am driving around a true American automobile, as being nice and solid. Not to mention the seats are like 100000X better, the steering, braking, and traction are 100000X better... not to mention the handling. And you'd think that you would be driving around in a truck, but the way it handles, it is amazing. That's because more emphasis went into the design phase... instead of plopping some stupid idea off a computer screen.
But I feel bad for you... maybe you just had a batch of bad transmissions... who knows in the day in age, really.
I know... :o

Make sure you have sent Ford a certified letter explaining your problem. Log all of the times you have taken it in, etc. I am sure you have done this.
I love the advice of getting the same truck you have had problems with. This is obviously coming from people who have not gone through the headaches of a lemon vehicle.

my transmission died at 72k miles. 3rd gear and OD gear bands were both destroyed. i dont know how it happened, it had always been really strong up until that one random day on I-5 when it wouldnt go past 2nd gear anymore. i have a new tranny with a 75k mile warranty though.
i figure i just got a bad one of the batch, these are supposed to go 150-200k at least. hopefully ill have better luck with my new one,
good luck with whatever you chose to do.
