Speedometer Question
Speedometer Question
I was driving a friends '06 F250 (V8, auto, 4x4, nothing special) and I got in and I was driving... for about an hour or two, and I noticed that the speedometer went only to 100 mph and that I was doing under the speed limit a few times because I didn't bother to look at the scale. My '07 F150 on the other hand goes all the way up to 120 mph. On my '99 it only went to 100 mph.
Why did Ford change the speedometer scale on the F150 to 120 mph? I mean, who would do anything beyond 100 mph in a truck anyways?!
I showed my friend, and he thinks it's because people are accustomed to that scale and the new ones have it?
But I looked online, and I noticed that '04-07's NBS all go to 120 mph....
Totally baffled here....

But... Gee, thanks man!
Well for one, with the 150, you can get speed rated (P-series) tires. With the 250 up, No tire other tha LT tires are rated for the vehicles, and LT tires are not speed rated.
As far as speedometers, my first truck, a 78 only had the speedo go to 85, although I did get it up to the P on MPH at the bottom of the dial. I figure somewhere around 100-105. It was an "interesting" ride at that speed. Nothing like that speed on the new trucks. It sort of floated along the highway, touching down occasionally.

Hmmm, when the speedo needle is pointed at 55 MPH, doesn't that mean 55 MPH, regardless of the maximum speed on the speedo?
Or do you guys have that funky aftermarket speedo where 1" = 5 MPH on his and 1" = 6 MPH on yours? No actual MPH numbers, only measurments!
Who cares?
So the F-150's speedo is capable of measuring higher speeds, big deal. I know my 06 will measure up to 120mph, but it refuses to keep accelerating once I get to 110mph. It's just something that is there, to be there. Be happy

I think every trucks top speed might be a little different, depending on tires, package, computer code, etc. I know the pre 04's had different limiters anyway...97mph, 99mph, some even 93 I think....
Mine cuts out at about 104 according to the speedo. Who knows how accurate the speedo is up there though (I would hope it would be accurate, who knows though...)
