Dad wants a truck.

So my Dad decided that he needs a new vehicle. He can't really make up his mind what he wants. This is just a "temporary". Long story short business is getting better so he is going to invest in a new vehicle. He really wants a Super Duty, but finances don't permit. He will be using it for a lot of highway driving, occasionally pulling a trailer, and once in a while a load. He really likes my truck but is hesistant since they are supposedly redoing them in 09. He tells me that when and if things get better he can pass it off as a company truck. What do you all recommend and what price ranges are we looking at. He wants a a screw, and the basics like power windows. He isn't really sure if he needs 4x4. He was talking to the dealer on speakerphone and he was saying that the new trucks have a locking differential. I asked him if he was talking about LS and he said no it was better...? There is a dealer in San Antonio that has a teaser 07 5.4 4x2 supercrew xlt for like 19,xxx. It is the only one on the lot and it's blue and he doesn't want blue. Is that a pretty good deal?

Sweet! finally ford is getting into the locking diff biz. I wonder how reliable it will be? I really think your father should get a super duty. Better for towing and stuff.

Ya'll really think if the 08's had a locking diff. this would be the first we've heard about it.

Go to the dealer and demand to see the button. I'm sure you'll get "Uh...Uh...Well.." Then ask him if it's an air or e locker. When he says it's just a true locker, slap the chit of him for all of us.

I've heard nothing about Ford putting a locking diff into the trucks. Anyway, I'd tell your Dad to look for a 2004-2005 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4. He can probably pick one up with decent miles for $22k or so. Well worth it considering a 4x4 Lariat NEW is around $40k MSRP. Tell him to go for a Certified pre-owned, and most of all, get the 5.4L.

I really don't think the rep knew what the hell he was talking about. I could be wrong but he didn't seem very confidant nor understandable on the phone. He explained it by saying, it spins both wheels... Thanks for the explanation, I almost wanted to ask him everything and get down to the truth but it wasn't worth it. Do you all think the teaser would be a good deal for $19.5 the dealer said that they get new ones every week so he is hoping one with a color he likes will fall into his lap. I just talked to him right now and he told me that he doesn't want a used truck for financing purposes. Apparently it easier and cheaper to finance a newer truck then an older one? What are the different types of plans? The X-Plan was it?

Not if you get the truck for their cost, or a couple hundred over. Find a fleet guy, they can sell used too. Tell them you'll pay $200-$350 over cost of the used vehicle, and make him show it to you. Most certified pre-owned Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles come with a special interest rate as well.

not to sound like a @$$, but i honestly think he should wait. It doesn't sound like he can truely afford it, or atleast truely afford what he wants, and the idea of "temporary" so that "when and if things get better he can pass it off as a company truck" leaves alot open to chance. If he NEEDS a truck now, as a "temporary" he should go find a good condition 2000-2003 f150 that he would be able to pay cash for.

Anyone who thinks it's cheaper to finance a new truck compared to a used one needs a quick lesson in economics 101. Anyone who says it's "easier" to finance a new truck might want to take an honest look at their overall economic health. Not trying to attack, it just seems like there are a lot of warning signs in your posts that this type of a purchase just isn't smart right now.

Maybe cheaper isn't the best word. Lower interest rate, maybe. Not really sure what he said. He is planning on financing it through his company.

Actually there are alot of banks that wont give you more then a certain amount on a loan if you are buying a used vehicle. So yes in that regard it can be "easier" to finance for new vehicle.

I agree, find a nice 01/02/03 Ext cab, or Screw that he can beat the **** out of for two years, then get a super duty or an 09 F150

Just looking at my local dealer, you can get a decent XLT for $29,000 MSRP, probably $23,000 out the door. With 0% interest for 60 months, it's often cheaper to buy new than used. Of course, the more you spend, the more you save.
