05 Brakes fx4

I get this little chirp going down the road from one of the tires. Its very consistent as the tire goes around. Just the other day, when I come to a stop, sometimes it makes a loud squeal like the big rigs do when they stop. The little chirp goes away as I'm driving when I just lightly put the breaks on. No brakes=noise.... Brakes=quiet..besides the new loud squeal when coming to a stop.

Is this just bad pads? I only have 18k miles on it....

the factory pads are semi metallic, again im not positive... they squeal alot, and make alot of dust, but they stop you ok... take a look at your rotors, see if they are cut up with grooves and waves, they should be ok, and i think if they arent they are covered under warranty... but replace the factory pads, go to Napa and get your some ceramics, i ordered akebono proacts from rockauto, they are a bit expensive though, ive heard only good things about napa ceramics, while your there, get you a little packet of permatex brake quiet, its blue and very gooey, it feels like elmers glue, follow the instructions for application, as everything is coming back together, everything needs to be cleaned.... if you wanna get down and dirty, and make sure your slide bolts arent dirty, pull your caliper apart where those little rubber boots are, clean them off and relube them with A. antiseize or B. crc brake lube (teflon, graphite, lithium, moly lube made for brake parts), also clean off the feet or the steel slides nice and good and lube them up with the same thing, very light coat so it dont attract dirt. with vehicle off, press the brakes to seat the pads, honestly while your there you should empty your master cylinder with a syringe, ( not all the way down) and refill, then bleed the brakes until you see cleaner fluid coming out of the bleed lines, make sure the level dont fall too much in the master cylinder... good luck

about the no brakes- noise, brakes- no noise, its most likely your pads, but check your rotors, they may be warped, if so make your dealer give you new ones, but get new pads anyway... if the pads are at an angle, then they will rub with brakes off, and as you press the brakes, the pads get "seated" actually i dont know, this is what i think and im no mechanic

hmmmm....

Mengela had a couple good points, but he buried them in bad points...

This is probably a warped rotor issue. When the brakes are not applied, the rotor makes contact at one point and chirps. When you apply the brakes, the pads are in constant contact and therefore do not chirp.

The new squeal when you apply your brakes is probably due to uneven wear on the pads... from the warped rotor issue.

Take it to a shop to have them check the run-out on the rotors. If that checks out ok, have them check the alignment. But I bet there will be a rotor run-out (warped rotors) issue.
