Exclamation Need Rotor Removal Help

I am trying to remove the rotors on my 04 4wd F-150. I can't get the rotors to come off. What did you do to get them off?

I was just going to turn them but with these issues I am having, I think I will just replace them. Thanks for any info.

remove the wheel, unbolt the caliper bracket, remover cotter pin in the center of the rotor, unbolt the spindle nut which is the silver colored nut in the center or the rotor (will probley need a 4ft cheeta bar) and it should pull right off... to put it back on you will need to use some red lock tight because its got a few plastic, or nylon threads in there... and put as much force on it as you can without stripping it.

Look for some retaining washers around the wheel studs and then use a pair of side cutters to cut them off. Remove the caliper and the rotor should slide right off.

I don't see any washers or cotter pins. Looking at the new rotors they slide right on and have nothing to attach except the lug nuts. It's a 4wd.

rotors rust around the inner hub diameter. if you are going to change them don't be afraid to use a BFH on the old ones to break the rust. I have even had to use the flame wrench on several. Unless things have changed, BFH to send a good vibration to them.

Everyone needs a BFH and a flame wrench in the old toolbox.

rubber mallet, throw the vise at it. If flame wrench, heat it up just outside the hub and smack it. BFH alone should do it, if it cracks who cares.

I came back to mention the rust thing but you beat me to it. Soak the center of the hub with a good penetrating oil then get your BFH, man up and beat it into submission, she'll come off.

BTW if you need to put some heat to it make sure to let the spray dry or you might make the local news!

For the fronts, take the wheel nuts off first. It can really make rotor removal a PIA otherwise

You may need a BFH to get it off, just be careful. Here is the front. If you need pics of the rear let me know,,Good luck should be an easy job. Tap,tap, spin, tap some more, keep rotating it. Put some antisize on the hub so next time it will fall off in your hands.

Those lugs will bottom out well before they come into contact with the rotor. I would leave them there so when he finially does whack this thing off it will not go flying across the floor

I was using ORM. A Navy term for Operational Risk Management. It's a way of telling our idiots to think before they act with out hurting there feelings and telling them there an idiot.
