Help...Rear Diff Leak

About a month ago I put on a Mag-Hytech rear diff cover...today I noticed a few small black spots on the driveway. I checked out the whole cover and nothing is leaking...I did notice that the breather hose was a bit wet...looks like I'm getting some fluid coming out of that hose.

Is this an indication of too much fluid in the rear diff?? Or is it something else?

Thanks in advance for any and all information..

sounds like over fill. how much did you put in and how did you decide it was full?

5Qts, that is according to the manufacture and everyone else that put this cover on...and there is a dipstick on the cover (fluid level between low and high mark)...my plan is to pull the normal fill plug and see what comes out..

It's not a huge amount of fluid coming out the spots are the size of quarters...but then again, I don't know how much comes out while I'm driving..

take out the check plug. If any fluid comes out....its overfilled.
If none comes out, stick your pinky finger straight in and bend it so that the first bend (closest to the finger nail) is resting on the hole. If you fill fluid...then its full.

Hmm thats wierd. Mag-Hytec actually told me 5.X quarts. I put in 5 quarts and called it a day, I haven't had any problems either.

I think the difference is your truck is lifted...at least that's what I get from the instructions..

How would being lifted have anything to do with it? I didn't get any directions so I don't know what they say.

I don't have the instructions on me...I think the Mag-Hytec site does...but I remember a blurb about establishing a oil level if your truck is modified or lifted and the axle has been rotated...don't know if that means more or less oil..

Ok...so I went to check the level of the fluid by pulling the normal fill plug..

A little over a quart came out...more would have come out, but I go a bit nervous that it may be too low..

I added some back in and brought the fluid level up a 1/4 inch past the first line on the Mag-Hytec dipstick..

Plan on calling Mag-Hytec tomorrow and see what they say.

One other thing; Has anyone with this cover or any other cover that has a magnetic plug/dipstick on it found any metal shavings?? I'm not talking about a lot, maybe 5-10 SMALL shavings were on the dipstick when I pulled it out...Normal???
Edit: Disregard, just re-read the instructions...they say the "fuzzy" material I see is normal wear...big chips are a problem..

Thanks,
Craig
