Nice move! 4.56 or what? To me lower gears felt like my truck lost weight. Like about 1,000 punds or so!

Sorry I had a long weekend, but heres my update. I love them, my motor runs just what was figured about 2480 + - at 80, my intake drone is gone due to not luging the motor anymore, and my fuel MPG even in town in saying at 14+ on my edge where as before it would go down to the low 13's after a night out driving around town. In about a week ill have paper numbers on my fuel MPGs so Ill update again then. So traffic is SO much better, it just keeps up so much better, no more up and down shifting as traffic picks up and slows down, but best of all no down shifting when pulling freeway interchages, just pulls right up them. I do have maybe one problem though, right between 51 and 53 I get this whine, my motor is so much quieter though so I cant tell if its just my tires and Ive never heard it before because of the quieter motor or I have gear whine. It only happend right at that MPH and it sounds the same if there is a load on the gears or coasting so I cant tell. Wouldnt gear whine be all the time? I am really thinking it is just my tires at that speed but I cant tell. It doenst bother me, is it bad like do i need it fixed or is it fine to drive with? Also could it be from the gears not broken in yet or would some Royal Purple help maybe if it is my gears?

Awesome, thanks for posting.

2480RPM at 80MPH is very respectable.

Did you go w/ 4.56 gears? Also, what size tire do you have again?

Not to Hijack this thread or anything, but if 4.56's are perfect for 35's, then im sure im gonna have to go with 4.88's for 38's anyway with such a low gear is my highway mpg gonna go down? Also I dont want my engine ROARING between 70 and 80, so which should I go with?

4.88s The bigger tires will take the rpms down, and I was all worried about my RPMs too but mine are just fine and the motor is quieter because it is working less, and my MPG seem to be up. Deff 4.88's for 38's. I got a deal I dont know the exact price yet I havent got the bill yet but he said around 1300 with the better gears and cash ( I dont know what brand but he said he can do the cheaper gears but I trust him and went with his better gears).

extremeethan... honestly, do you think 4.88's w/ 35's would be overkill or not too bad?

I would have to tow something then let you know, right now 4.56s are fine but I did gears so I could tow again, so I dont know tell I tow if 456 fit the bill.

At 80 with 488 your looking at 2623 compaired to 2451 for 4.56's
70 with 488s is 2296 or 2145 with 4.56's

I think they would be a little steep for me being I do a lot of freeway but it depends on how you drive I guess

Ok thanks... about 95% or more of my driving is city and I'm not too concerned about the fuel efficiency between 4.56 and 4.88, so right now I'm leaning towards 4.88. Plus, I don't tow anymore because my new boat is too big to trailer.

The RPM's you posted are while using OD correct?

I've been using this chart which seems to be pretty close to accurate because right now I'm at about 2300RPM at 65MPH without OD w/ 35's and 3.73 gears.

Yeah, nice read.

I'm [also] going with 4.56 in the next week or two. The 1K round trip [mainly highway] I did to Myrtle Beach, SC this past week has convinced me to no end.

Waiting for a quote from three different places.

that chart is for our tranny with the .70 OD
What do you guys think of this?
The same Polycarbonate material used in bulletproof glass - extremely impact resistant - stronger than steel covers. The powder coated steel mounting flange looks excellent. Beyond strength & good looks, you can easily check condition of fluid and gears.

Ok pic wont show but it is a clear rearend cover?

I've been told to expect a fee of around $1200-$1600 installed.

Sound about right?
