Mag Hytec - Trans. and Diff Covers?
 

Where is the cheapest place to buy? And those who have them are they really worth it? :help: Also has anyone used the B&M Tranny cooler for our trucks? I want to help my tranny out, especially under loads

not sure about the tranny cooler mine came with one from Ford so i never needed to upgrade. As far as the diff cover, depends are you the one that is going to be changing your own gear oil? if yes, then get the cover for the drain plug and the dipstick. OR do you like the look because honestly i got mine because i think it looks good and after i blew all my money on my lift i figured the next best compliment was the diff cover and the Mag Hy-Tec makes look even harder.

My truck came with a tranny cooler as well, but I was thinking you could combine two for better cooling, couldn't you? Anyway yes ill be changing my own fluids, but also I've heard that they lower temperatures, is that true?

I dont see why you couldnt combine the two... but i pull my 26' boat 60 miles and the tranny never gets hot according the Tranny temp gauge on my Edge.

i dont know how lower the temps get on the diff but the fins do help. Get the cover, i would.

I dont know if you would know this off hand, but do you know what your tranny temp is in traffic without a load? And then what it is loaded? Mine lately has been getting up to 180-190 during mid day driving when here awhile back it would only get that hot while towing.

Also does anyone know at what temp your actually causing damage to the trans?

Mine usually runs in the 160s during normal driving conditions.

I get 168-175 with no load and a hot Florida day. With a load and a hot Florida day it goes up to 180.

The differential covers like the Mag-Hytec do lower differential temperatures because they hold more fluid and they're finned. The Mag-Hytec takes about 5 quarts vs stock which holds 3 quarts. I'd say its worth it. Plus its a DREAM to change, not to mention the magnets on the dipstick and drain plug. Trust me, once you have new gears. You'll want to change the oil at 500 miles and clean those magnets. :beers:

I am thinking about getting one of the mag hytec pans. I was driving in stop and go city traffic this weekend, it was 106 deg outside and according to my edge the transmission got up to 187.

Same here in 100+ deg. heat, mines gotten up to 198, i dont know at what temp these trannys start damaging, and I dont have over 2000 miles on this tranny mine got replaced because I blew the first one out. Ford covered it no questions asked

yeah but its 113 and like 150 freeway surface temp. I am really thinking of adding the SD tranny cooler though

Dont you think an aftermaket cooler would be better, since its a specific application? I hadn't thought of the SD cooler though, I know B&M makes one that looks pretty good not to expensive either. Ill try and find a link.......
