Help please... "Chrome package" question...
So I went to look at the 07's, and there's an F-150 XLT 4x4 with the "chrome package" which includes step bars, "chrome" grill, and "chrome clad" aluminum wheels.
So my question is, I inspected the "chrome clad" aluminum wheels, and it's nothing more than chrome-colored plastic attached to the underlying aluminum, which with some effort could be snapped and broken off. Anyone have these, and what is your opinion of them? They look nice, just not sure about the longevity of them and I don't want to have to get wheels replaced due to the plastic chipping/breaking. Thanks. |
I have the chrome clad steel wheels on my 06 and they are a chrome plated metal skin over the steel wheel, no plastic except for the hub cover which is chrome plated ABS.

I have those wheels on my 05. I like them for the ease of cleaning, I've never had wheels so easy to clean. They still look like new, even after many off-roading adventures.

We've got the chrome clads on both our 04 Expy (steel wheels) and my 07 F150 Lariat (aluminum wheels). These wheels are as durable as any other factory wheels, however the chrome plated plastic does not hold up well to brake dust. Leave it on for a week and it's permanently damaged.
I would image the plastic wont hold up to well with hitting things, like curbs or rocks, but since we don't off road, it doesn't matter. |
All the Dodges with the 20" rims are "Chrome Clad", my neighbor has a 1500 he bought in 2005 and they still look good.
