Just Installed Lariat Gauge Cluster - Question

I just installed a Lariat gauge cluster in my 2007 FX4. Because my FX4 has the luxury package (EATC), it was a direct plug and play upgrade and everything worked perfectly. The only problem is that the Lariat cluster I installed reads just over 17,000 miles. My original cluster only had 300 on it. How do I get my new cluster to read what the truck actually has?

Dealership will have to program it for 50 to 80 dollars

Ok, that's what I figured.

I'm really not too concerned about the discrepancy myself, but I don't want to have a problem when it's time to sell the truck. The potential buyers probably won't believe them when I say the truck has approximately 17k less miles than what it reads. That's the reason I did this mod when the truck was so new, so the Lariat cluster would be installed pretty much from day 1... or actually day 6.

Thanks.

That would probably be my first mod on an FX4 as well, good choice. You have a hybrid LX4 now =]

Yeah it looks good. Plus, I got the stainless steel US Speedo overlay with it, so it looks right at home in the FX4.

Pics of the cluster as well as the new truck to come shortly.

MOST dealers CANNOT program mileage, they send the cluster back to Ford if they need to. They'd have all kinds of techs rolling back mileage so they stay out of it since it's a big time offense if you get caught. The programming that dealers do that everyone refers to is putting the 'as-built' data that your factory cluster had into your new cluster, this makes your chimes, dome light, etc work.

You'll need to call around local speedo shops and ask if they can program the mileage, small time shops usually can't due to the $6000 cost of the tool. If you get stuck shoot me a PM.

Hey baja150. I am thinking of doing this swap in my 2006 XLT. What year truck did your cluster come out of. This is my concern when searching for one. I am wondering if any lariat cluster 04+ will work in my 06??

The Lariat cluster from any 2004+ F-150 will work. My truck has the EATC which requires the temperature probe inside the cab. The wiring harness for the temperature probe also includes the connector for the message center buttons, that's why it was a direct plug and play for my truck. Otherwise you have to add wires from the message center buttons that run up to the connectors that plug into the gauge cluster itself. Then even when you get the cluster and message center wired up, the A/C in the truck wouldn't work until you took it to the dealer to have the "as built" data uploaded to the new cluster.

Yeah, what he said. Clusters have to be preprogrammed with the mileage before installation.

Well it's only been in my truck for less than 50 miles. Can I remove it and take it somewhere to have the odometer corrected?

Try checking with a dealership parts department, see if they'll send it out for you. I think they go to Visteon for calibration/setup. They may tell you to go fish though (might look kinda fishy to them, someone bringing an instrument cluster in and requesting a specific mileage be programmed into it...they may think you're trying to roll the clock back on a vehicle).

Thanks Quintin.

I have a friend who owns a dealership which happens to be where I bought the truck just last week so they know the truck is pretty much new. I'm going to remove it tonight before there's more than a 50 mile mileage discrepancy and see what he can do with it.
