Mobile One Syn.

I bought Mobile One Syn. the other day. it is 5w-20. this isn't the 'extended milage' version or the clean 5000. Just straight mobile one. Anyone used this yet, and would it be reasonable to expect around a 5000 mile oil change intervals? Also using a motorcraft filter. This will be used in my 5.4l 4x4 w/ 12000 miles on it.

Yes, its overkill changing it every 5,000 miles IMO.

I change mine around every 7,500 miles.

I would like to know what the difference between that oil and the extended coverage really is . . if any. .

Sweet! Alot more than I expected. Hard to believe that somthing with the texture of water will give that much protection. Does our engine take 6 quarts of oil? i bought a 5 qt. jug and an x-tra quart for good measure. I'm sure this info is in the manual, just haven't looked yet.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance formulas are designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance has a unique formulation with a boosted level of protection and performance. Mobil 1 Extended Performance, with the Advanced SuperSyn System, contains 50 percent more SuperSyn than Mobil 1. (Updated March 2006)

They left out the part where they sprinkel pixie dust in the formula. lol

Yeah that should be fine. Depending on how and where you drive plays a big part in how often you should change your oil.

Take a look at the oil as it's draining out. If it's dirtyier than you'd like than change it more regularly.

If you want to try and run it longer than 5,000 I recommend getting something to drain it into that has measurments on it so you can measure how much you drain out. All vehicles burn oil. Just make sure you're draining out at least 6+ quarts.

Dang... guess it's back to the store. There goes another 20 bucks. Can't go to autozone and just buy what you came for.

Also, the FL820S Motorcraft filter should be fine.

Here's a lot of good info on oil filters.

my last 2 oil changes (5000-8000mile) were from Ford and they used 7qts of Motorcraft Syn. I will be going back to Mobil one Syn. due to the high price of motorcraft ($80plus)

I'll be switching to Royle Purple my next change. I found a store that sells it for about a dollar more than the Mobil1.

Mobile 1 is not what it used to be. It is a good oil, but tons of their loyal customers did an oil analysis of mobil 1 and they have noticed some change in the oil. Mobil 1 may have changed the formula to their oil, and some are saying it is not even a full synthetic. Mobil 1 extented performance remains the only synthetic in their line of products. I would stick with MC synth blend considering the price/value. Amsoil did an oil analysis for 5w30, Motorcraft synth blend did pretty well. Wmart sells MC 5w20 for a great price. in other words if you are not going to use the extended performance one, don't bother with Mobil 1 you are better off considering other synthetic Manufacturers.
You can check out the analysis, I am talking about at http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/asl.aspx and look for 100% Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil (ASL) to access the analysis.
A great resource for oil analysis and oil discussions is http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ check it out

I couldn't find Motorcraft at wal-mart. I'll never be able to tell the difference between one oil to another. So the oil that i have that says 'full syntheitic' and has met Fo Mo Co standards (says it on the container) is not compatable with my truck, or is that possibaly a little overkill? I'm sure that your statement holds truth, just wondering if this is starting to split hairs. Just want to know if it is safe to run on a stock engine. Thanks for the info though. I'll definately keep it in mind for the next time.

Motorcraft 5w20 should be a red jug (5 qt. Jug should run around $10.60). Some Wm sell it some don't. As for mobil 1, It is decent oil but they are overcharging a lot for what you are getting. My previous post was not about bashing Mobil products, but about the premium they are charging for a lesser quality. My thinking is that Wmart is demanding lower prices from MOBIL. Mobil is acquiescing by delivering a lower quality product with a lower price. But I doubt that WM is passing along the savings. Any synthetic 5w20 or 0w20 should be compatible with your truck it should say it in the container.
