Bushwacker guys

I just got my Pocket Flares in today and they are pretty cool and I plan to get them painted dark shadow gray. So my question is...

Did you use that edge trim seal that came with the flares?
If so, did you get that painted as well?

I see bushwacker doesn't recommend painting that but does suggest a flex additive if painted. Heck probably wouldn't even notice that black strip on dark shadow gray flares.

The seal is so water doesn't get down there and so it doesn't scratch the paint. I would think if you painted them that it would be crisp and flaky which would nullify their purpose. The fronts are harder to put on than the rears and it helps to have a buddy push them up so you can get them on as tight as possible

Dont want to hijack your thread but I have a question on this subject and dont want to start another thread. I had mine painted and picked them up today. I am installing them right now, but I am concerned with the way that the front ones mount. Will the 3 plastic screw things really stand up to time?? I am thinking about bolting them onto their brackets and then trying to get the brackets to line up with the holes in the fender, I think that this will last longer this way....... What do you think?

Now I'm wondering if I should even paint them. The black really goes with the overall black theme.

thoughts?

yes I plan on undercoating my wheel wells.

Ferg- I think they will be fine just look at all the others here running with them and no complaints that I've seen. You could always hit a hardware store and replace them with bolts and lock washers.

Already did. I only have the driver side front to install in the morning. I had to take it back to have the paint touched up b/c I dropped the flare on the ground......

Oh that sucks! I decided to go ahead and get them painted. There's a good paint shop 2 blocks away that's going to do them for me. I'll be dropping them off in the morning and they'll be ready by the end of the day.

Spray some Armorall in there and it will look like new. I do it and get compliments all the time about how meticulous I am to even wash inside my wheel wells.

I would recommend painting them but not the seal.. painted mine myself for $75 learning to paint is a good way to save $$. And it's so easy a caveman can do it!!

I have a buddy that gave the inside of his pocket flares a few coats of that roll-on bedliner before he mounted them up. It made them much heavier and they seemed much more ridgid. Not sure if it really made any difference.

I know WalMart has the Duplicolor brand...not really sure about the Herculiner or other DIY roll-on bedliner products. I used it to coat the inside of the rear fenders on my old F150 where rocks would hit the underside of the bed. I used the special loop roller to put it on and it made a really nice texture and looked great.

Odd, my rears where harder than my fronts. But I agree, it's better to have help to get them tight to the sides. I got my flares painted for 200 a few months ago. You guys are getting a good deal at 150.
