Electric Hubs = POS :beers:

replaced front left and right hubs on my truck last week

If the rear wheels are spinning at a different speed than the fronts, then you could have an issue?

4x4 wont even engage..... they arent pulling at all...

I think it says something in the manual about if the rear wheels are spinning do not engage 4x4.

Where ya'lls rear wheels spinning at the time? I can see people not thinking and spinning their rear tires at 3,000 rpm and trying to pop it into 4x4 at the same time.

Bud

Before your problems with it did it say that it was in 4WD on the dash light. I'm having problems with my 4WD but I think its from the accident, I'm not sure though. The dash lights up and I can feel it engage in the transfer case, the front driveshaft is spinning as well as the CV axles but I don't have any power going to them.

Anyone want to try to figure that one out. .

check yalls vaccum lines they had really ought to be extended when you lift your truck

Ford uses a collar in the hubs on the newer models. It is vac operated and slides together some splines actually enguaging 4x4. By using a actuator at the t case and a hub locking system they are able to save slightly on rotating mass thereby reducing fuel consumption and vibration at highway speeds. Of course as your finding makes for a more complicated system and one that is more prone to failure. The rubber bladder that works with the vac line or the actual vacum hose its self is probably damaged now allowing the splines to enguage and by doing so keeping you from 4x4

scott1981 06-12-2007 02:55 PM

I found these 4x systems done like to be enguaged with the truck is not rolling or if it is in a bind. I tried to put my 4x4 on then climb a nasty hill immediatly after. A loud pop was heard and it clipped out of 4x4. Backing up slightly and then popping it back in 4wd then rolling it a couple feel allowed the 4wd to firmly enguage and it didnt happen again. sucks because I like to play in 2w till I get stuck, but looks like when the going gets rough I have to put it in 4wd before the strain on the components comes into play

I'm hoping that everyone here is smarter than that. I think what he means is that hes putting it in 4WD but just the rear wheels are spinning, no front wheel movement.

Regardless...This 4X4 system is crap. Poping, cracking, in/out...way too much stuff to go bad. I am just waiting for this to happen when I need it most.

I have the same issue with my stock 05 fx4, and i'm taking it to ford this week while it's under warranty. will let yall know.

nuclearthreat54 06-12-2007 09:40 PM
