Transmission won't hold in Park!
 

My truck will not hold the truck in park. I am on the bed loading my ski's into the water, with my trucks parking brake on, and the truck in park. I'm on a slight hill and the transmission starts making a loud clicking and starts to roll back. For some reason it will not stay engaged in park if I'm on a hill. If I had gears it would hold it better but thats no excuse. Is this an indication of my transmission failing and can this be rebuilt/fixed?

Yeah that sounds like your parking pin is going out. :eek: You can avoid the fix for awhile by using your ebrake to park like you should have always been using when parking on a hill to save that small pin any ways. Man you need to sell that truck in going to nickle you to death now. Tcase, starter, steering rack, Tranny!!:eek: :eek: . Hopefully I am wrong about the pin but I know a guy that put it in park just slightly rolling and sheared it off and the tranny shop said the pins are always weak and to never rely on them on a hill anyways.

i agree about the parking pin.

but damn man sucks that all these problems are comin right at ya. maybe time for a new one? or can you hold out for the new style :smoke:

That's why I always put my parking brake, regardless of where I'm parked. Don't like the idea of a tiny pin hold back all those pounds of weight.

The parking pawl is probably working ok, it is just the fact that you have bigger wheels and tires acts as more leverage on the trans and will pull the pawl out of place a lot easier.

I always use my E-Brake to avoid situations like this. My truck holds itself pretty well on hills in Park with the E-Brake on. . if I don't use the E-Brake it goes into gear kind of rough and loud.

I am using my parking brake as mentioned above in my original post. I will however tighten the sprocket that controls the parking brake before tomorrows trip! Thanks for the help guys, is this pin easily replaceable? I'm pretty confident I can find my way around the tranny if need be. Let me know.

It is my own fault it sits the way it sits and I will bear the problems and repairs. However, next time around it will be in a superduty. I won't make the same mistake twice.

also my parking brake is way out of adjustment, yeasterday I had to park on a hill and pushed my ebrake down and let my foot off the brake and I still rolled right on to the parking paw. I put it in gear again to take it off the paw (with a loud clunk) and had to push my ebrake to the floor to get it to hold the truck.
