'04 owners how's your truck holding up?

Due to the phaser issue, and finances, I haven't driven mine for over 2 years. I am putting funds in a truck rebuild fund, but #$%^ hurricanes suck up money fast you know?
I fell victim to the 5.4L 3V phaser issue. The truck has just around 120K on the odometer, and I really don't want to give up on it. Overall I love the truck, When it works right, it hauls / tows everything I want to. And goes where I point it...
I am debating a factory remanufactured engine swap, or a full on rebuild of the engine. Whatever I do, I want to insure I don't have that stupid problem again...
I REALLY wish Ford would have done right by us and fixed these reliability problems instead of letting their good name get hammered with this junk engine design.

Still going strong over here. 195k and not an issue in sight. getting ready to do plugs for the 3rd time, I decided to do these at 60K to avoid having coil issues.
Sunroof regulator is broken, cost is over 600$ for the regulator assembly and I dont use it anyways, so its shut and the switch is unplugged.
I think the front axle seals are seeping just a little bit, the flange of the front CV axles are slightly oily
I have the famous supercrew rust on the cab at the bottom of the C pillars, down at the corner of the door. I hope to get that fixed soon.
5w20 motocraft and an FL820s every 5k, no issues what soever. couldn't be happier with this truck

04 FX4 SCAB 201k miles. I've gone through all the standard 5.4 3v repairs at around 100K. Broke 6 of 8 spark plugs, Cam phazers, vct solenoids, timing chain tensioners, broken chain guides, broken exhaust manifold studs, corroded fuel pump control, stearing knuckle, broken strut spring, and Coil packs. All the timing / cam phaser issues have not returned after switching out to the updated timing chain tensioners. Lost the torque converter at 175K rebuilt the transmision while it was out. installed custom exaust, Banks headers, Banks Hi Ram intake, E-fans, underdrive crank, Bilstien shocks, 195/65 18 Duratracs and tied it all together with a SCT tuner and tune from Five Star. Its had its fair share of problems, but the truck has been easy to work on (minus the rediculous clearance on the passenger side exhaust manifold) and I saved a ton of money doing it myself. All told it runs better now than when I bought it at 64K. Even rides better than the wifes 2010 Expedition EL Limited.

Okay, okay...'05 model year, but manufacture date of 12/17/04
She's running finer than frog hair, (update on the mileage)...162,000 and change, still starts on the first try, but also has that massively annoying "tic" from the cam phasers. Since I can't afford to fix her, I'll just have to continue to live with that annoying tic.

14 years old Canadian truck
235,000 km 143,000 miles. Just replaced the power steering lines. Plugs need replacing have 135,000 Km on them. Had the transmission rebuilt at 170,000 Km, (thanks to fords ****ty engineering) The fuel modal under the spare tire has been replaced (more ****ty engineering, what a stupid location for it!) Other then that the truck is doing well for 14 years old.

My 04 SCAB is doing fine, about 180k on the odometer. I have the cam phaser tick and some timing chain slap so those will be done at the same time hopefully this year. I recently upgraded the radio to a full featured double din unit with GPS, backup camera, dash cam, and Bluetooth and wifi. I'm currently in the process of installing a remote start since my move to a cold climate area last year, gotta have it for those cold mornings! I may install a block heater as well. Need to do a coolant and brake fluid exchange too as well as a good wash and wax. She runs so well I can't justify giving her up. I'll take care of her as long as she takes care of me.

Rear fluid change
Got word from my brother that my rear end fluid should have been changed at 100,000 miles, but that the extra 35,000 shouldn't be a problem.
So we changed my rear gear oil putting in Mobil 1 75W-90.
Good thing I did too, it took all three quarts plus the posi additive (okay, okay, it was a little low).
Next weekend or when it gets warmer, gonna change the front diff. fluid too.

My '04 FX-4 Supercab will be turning 220,000 miles sometime next week. The truck was sitting in the driveway from April '16 to just last month because I had to go out of state and stayed much longer than anticipated. Changed all my fluids, re-installed the battery and it fired right up. Having an issue with the stereo, however, which I described on another thread.

This is an old thread but still going strong lol.
Bought my 04 in 2017. Bought it with 149k miles on it and a laundry list of problems.
Dealer didn't do ANYTHING they should've done before selling it, but that's why I got such a great deal on it.
At first, the chugging/throttle sadness wasn't too bad, but it got much worse. Much, much worse. To the point when I would try to merge on the interstate with traffic 9 times out of ten I would have to pull on the shoulder and wait for a LARGE gap because it would sputter and surge and nearly get me (and someone else) killed. 3 (yes THREE) different shops told me the code reader said left bank running lean and to replace the CMCV. So I did. 6 hrs and $90 later no change. "Oh, now do the MAF." So I did. $90 later no change. Then I went back to my roots: Fire, Fuel, Air. Replaced all 8 of the dreaded 3v plugs (not 1 breakage, thanks Ford engineer for the super secret tip! Still own the Lisle tool tho lol) and went ahead and bought MSD CoP's. Mannnnn, what a damn difference! She ran liked a raped ape after that. Gas mileage went up to 16.6 and even hit the 18s on the interstate (if I kept it under 80). Then I addressed the rattle. I can only compare it to a ring of keys on a piece of schedule 40 pipe being rolled by someone. Ripped off the power robber FoMoCo Muffler and replaced it with a Raptor ($50). Sound was amazing. Too amazing. Rattle didn't stop so I was going to move to the Cat's. Well... It didn't have Cat's. AWESOME. That's why it sounded so good. So, after searching online for weeks I finally found a video of a guy with the same sound I was experiencing. It was the hubs. Stupid design on the solenoid let water in and trashed the seals. So, last weekend I replaced the hubs, the actuators and the solenoid then added a 2 1/2" leveling kit. Mannnnn, I can ride with my windows down now and not be embarrassed while cruising lol. I absolutely love this truck, and my desire is to pay it off and pass it to my son in two years for him to drive. Or maybe buy him a Ranger and let this be my second vehicle when I buy a new used F150 lol. I broke my own rule of not buying a 1st gen body style but honestly, if the dealer would've just done half of what they should've then it wouldn't have been a big issue. I'll keep this lady for a while, God willing.
Now if I can just get the damn cruise to work...
