You've only got 97K on an '04? I'm impressed, I've got better than 110K+ on my '05.

bought in October 2013 at 79K for 4500 bucks, pushing 98K now. I've done a fair job of racking them up lately, I wont be driving the truck anymore come this September though

I had to get rid of my '99 this year due to the chassis being shot, she had 103K, bought in feb 2011 with 98K

I'm working on getting my 2nd engine, I bought this FX-4 with a bad oil pump. Imagine that, but I added a pump and screen and got almost 2years out of it untill she finally let go. The first engine was out of a totaled truck via salvage yard, this engine lasted another 3.5 years and 60k plus, then I was just driving and a super bad skip developed. We then checked everything trouble shooting. It ended up being a burnt valve or a hole in #2piston from oil starvation..Well that's when my fun has started, I had a company build me a replacement complete engine, when they/he completed the build he said as soon as he receives my ck he would ship the engine to me. Long story short he has cashed my check wnd i have no engine yet after 14days and also i have had very very little communication from him returning my countless calls and texts. Ive heard it all untill now or I thought so, he seems to think I am in the wrong for wanting him to do what I Piaf him to do and what he said and continues to say I shipped it and have no more info than that. Duh, right.. Such a bad situation for me but I will continue to try to contact his company and him untill I get my 4k back or untill my attorney takes over. I just try to stay positive knowing it will get resolved. One way of the other....
Thanks for your interest in reading this. I'll post the outcome and I trust it will be a good ending...
I bought mine with 100k they said bad engine, just the oil pump, lasted 15k, replaced engine now looking to replace engine again at 184,254 miles. I gotta do it, I can't get a truck like this for the $5k it will cost to repair this truck. I really dig this truck so fix her and roll on. I have replaced the transmission, brakes w/ cross drilled rotors, Pionieer AVIC DVD-GPS and a DVD in the rear for my daughter, 2" frt leveling strut blocks, 325 50x20 Toyo off road 20" Crome ROUSH rims and exhaust. Plus an Edge programmer and a hard bed cover plus others..these are awesome trucks....

130,000 miles - Still strong

Hit 130k last month and it's still in great shape. It's an 04 FX4 and I got it with 97k on it a few years back. Since then I've added quite a bit: CAI, Edge Evo w/PHP tune, exhaust, rims/tires, and a few other aesthetic changes.

Just after 130k I had the timing chains and cam phasers replaced. Since then the truck sounds and runs even better than when I got it. Other than that I've only had to do a few small repairs here and there. Everything else is in great condition currently so I'm hoping to get many more miles out of it.

I'm always wanting to make upgrades or changes. Thinking I might add some LED strips in the footwells and back in the bed next. Other than that who knows...I always find something to add or modify so we'll see...

Here's a few pics of the truck as it is today:

175500 still runs great.

04 FX4 Scab Flare side. 175500 miles and counting. Broke 6 of 8 plugs when replacing them @100k, thank god for the broken plug removal tool from Snap On. Replaced cam phasers, vct solenoids and complete timing set @ 130k Runs and sounds better than when I bought it at 69k. Added Banks torque tube headers and new exhaust with side exit when the exhaust manifold studs snapped. Banks High ram intake, electric fans, under drive harmonic balancer, and SCT x4 tuner with 5 star tunes. 295/65 18 tires and Bilstien leveling shocks. @ 175k it has grown its own super charger or at least the sound of one. A bearing in the torque converter is going bad. causing it to whine with RPM until it locks up in OD. Still runs and shifts fine. Trans rebuild and torque converter replacement will be the next big adventure. Love the truck all things considered. If I couldn't do the repairs myself it may be a different story.

I last posted in this thread in October 2012 and i had 280k. Now almost two years later and i have 377k.

Since then i have dropped a valve on the number 7 cylinder. Didn't get the intake cleaned out good and three months later it sucked a piece of the old valve into number 4 cylinder. Boy those heads are tough to get on and off. Left a valve cover bolt loose and it had a bad oil leak which i let get a little to low and it appears to have damaged the left side cam phaser..again. so it's unplugged right now.

Now if i had that fixed along with the exhaust leak, the fuel door that won't close and new windshield i would be in good shape.

It looks and sounds a little rough, but people in my office complex tend to not want to park near me! LOL but with all the problems the 5.4 has, it's still one strong motor. Will update you again at 500k!

Bought my 2004 new, replaced differential at 99,000 miles and the transmission at 130,000......other than that.......
ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING!
I currently have 161,000 miles and this thing drives like the day I drove it out of Planatation FORD in South Florida in November of 2003!
I've NEVER owned a vehicle this long, and I'm seriously thinking about maintaining and keeping this til MY last day (I'm 68!).

FORD built a GREAT truck!

I got my 2004 in August of 04. Currently has 197282 miles on it.

I recently replaced both front hubs and my driver CV axle and actuator (left a ripped boot alone too long). I also replaced lower ball joints and upper control arms as well as tie rod ends while I was at it.

I noticed a leak at the differential during this process and decided to replace the pinion seal and change my diff oil. I wish I'd taken it somewhere because I'm having some issues at the moment with the pinion nut.

Other than those mentioned I:

replaced my COPs and plugs and catalytic converters
replaced the stock rotors (which warped in 08) with aftermarket drilled/slotted
replaced the driver and passenger front window regulators
replaced the solenoid for engaging 4x4 under a TSB
flushed the transmission

Other than that things have gone well. I just replaced the stock wheels with American Racing wheels and new tires and had the front end aligned so I'm hoping after I get the work on the diff finished I'll be good to go for another 100k.

Bought mine new. Now have 135,000 miles mostly highway miles. No off road travel. It's been OK.

Various steering components that trashed two sets of front tires at various times, a steering shaft rusted up, broke a front spring, necessitating replacing both strut / spring assemblies, rear differential clutch pack sticking - solved with some additive poured in by my mechanic, broken spark plug nonsense twice even though I changed them every 50k miles, broken power window mechanicals on the drivers side, rusted out exhaust bracket (welded a new piece of metal to replace the rusted out piece), rusted out spare tire lock that fell off somewhere (the plug that covers the winch hole). Cam position sensors bad at 100k.

I call this history "ok" because I have a relative with a 2003 Lexus GS300. Other than routine maintenance, the only thing that has broken on her car is the power door lock actuators.

That to me is the perfect history.

Northeast winters with salt do nasty things to a truck.
