Leather swap

I have been searching for OEM leather seats on the forum and I continue to find threads where someone has swapped with non-oem seat covers. The problem with thes IMO is the lack of fit. The leather is loose and bunched up. I am trying to find someone on here who has done the OEM leather swap so that I may see if the fit looks factory.

If you have done this can you please post pictures with valid links, (as this seems to be a problem with my searches) where you purchased the covers, and your purchase price.

Shukran,
Copeland

unless your an upholstry person, I'd stay away from the covers.

why not just swap the leather seats themselves? those leather seat covers aren't cheap. you can get a OEM from a junkyard or eBay for the same price as covers.

I agree, I'd try to get some OEM leather seats. I saw a tan leather one on ebay for $150 (just the pass seat). I bet you could round up some OEM leather seats if you did some looking. It would be a lot easier to swap them then to try recovering them. And I'm sure you could get some money for your seats so all in all I bet it would end up being pretty cheap.

I dont have any pics but I did the OEM leather seat cover swap and it's not that difficult. I have a SCREW and it took me betwwen 4 and 5 hours to finish and I had no idea what I was doing when I started. I have the tan leather and I think the covers were about $200. It's been a while since I did mine thoough so I'm not positive on the price. The black leather use to be cheaper but I dont think that's true anymore.

I seen on TRUCKS that they painted a seat with vinyl paint. They used windex to clean the seats of oil and acetone with various scrubb pads to open the pores on the leather for the paint to better stick to.

Anyone ever done this? The seats looked good on TV. Reason I am bringing this up is the paint on my drivers seat is wearing off. Too much sliding in and out of the truck you know.

Not at all are yours on the seat or in the pillar? I'm thinking they are on the seat, It's very easy either way. If on the seat all you have to do is remove the seat and then remove the side panels. Once you get in there you will see that its just a couple of star bits to get the seat belt assembly out. To do the leather swap you have to remove the top part of the seat belt off anyways to remove the backrest cover.

P.S. Chris adams is the guy that I got my instructions from to do the swap. He explained it in a post. He Did the swap and then posted the instructions. Very helpful but once you get the seats out its kind of self explanatory. Make sure if you do the swap, clip the hogrings and get all of the pieces out so not to cut the new seat covers. I used 20lb test wrapped around the loops 3 times instead of using hogring replacements, much easier and very durable.

I purchased mine off of ebay for around $300. They are an aftermarket brand but I am not sure which one. They go on pretty easy IMO. The fit is like the stock leather and quality seems to be better. The covers you read about are probably the ones that go over the the complete seat.

There are several one here that have swapped for the cloth for the leather take-offs. Most of the threads with the pics are old and the pics are not there anymore. I have pics of my seats in my gallery. The aftermarket brands offer a choice of colors and options that the OEMs do not. They do cost a little more but they give your truck a custom look.

If you can find them on ebay or one of the other sites that sell the take-offs you will be looking in that price range. The tan ones are hard to come by. I have only seen a few on ebay and have not found any on the other site that I have seen the take-offs for sell. I was just about to buy a set of Katzkins when I came across the set I got off of ebay. The kats were going to be around $800.
