Alarm glass sensor & battery back up
Alarm glass sensor & battery back up
Most local install shops seem to sell Viper systems. You can get Python & another (w/ 1 yr warr.). All are made by DEI, I think.
Not too concerned w/ remote start, but many of the systems don't have glass breakage sensor or battery backup - have to add them. I'm looking for feedback if you've seen those two features ACTUALLY put to the test.
Do the glass sensors really work, or just buying false sense of security? I've been told by several, that w/o glass sensor, most alarms wouldn't go off if a window is broken.
Battery backup: What all WILL they do, and what WON'T they? If car battery dies, how long will a battery backup module allow unlocking & disarming? I'm thinking about removing the door lock cylinders.
Thanks.

I believe My Viper 791XV has built in battery back-up. Might want to look into a viper system. I've had it for about a year now with no problems. Also this is in the wrong forum check in the electronics section. I'm pretty sure RP's gonna move it either way.
Thanks,
Yes, Viper is mostly what I've seen. One dealer mentioned a 350XV, but don't think it has glass sensor or battery backup.
Why is this the wrong forum? It just says "2004 to Present."
I don't see an electronics section. Electrical maybe?

The negative battery cable in the truck had nearly completely corroded. The Viper would not lock, unlock, or do anything b/c there was not enough electricity. Also, when the truck is armed you can open the tailgate completely, and lightly pound on the cab near the top of the cab and still not set the alarm off. You have to give it a good open handed slap. The vibration sensor is mounted on the bottom of the steering column where my college roomate put it when he did the Viper install (he used to install them professionally). It would be nice if the vibration sensor were a bit more sensitive, but I think the truck is just to big for it. Mostly I just care about the two way LCD letting me know if the truck is locked or unlocked and the remote start though. All in all, I am very satisified with the truck and 791XV. One thing though, replacing that negative battery cable was a pain in the rear
