Exhaust Cut Out's

I am looking to add electronic exhaust cutouts to my f150 and I was wondering if anyone has done this and has any experience with it. How loud will it make my 05 f150 and will it mess my truck up. Any help with this would be great. I just want my truck loud when I want it to be.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. I was gonna put it in the i-pipe right before the muffler. I had one on my 5.7 ls1 Trans Am and it was super loud even when I had cats.
I was just gonna get a manual one since its so easy to get to under the truck. Summit haas em cheap.

Be warned: These can be VERY loud at WOT!

I had the FlowTech exhaust cutouts on my '04 Goat for a little over three weeks, and while it had the most amazing sound inside the cab when opened at WOT - regardless of the windows up/down - it was so loud it bordered on obnoxious as the revs went north. I didn't realize this until, one time, I had a friend do a driveby at WOT while I stood outside ... that was enough for me to pull them out that very evening even though I loved it. I'll also add that the added ponies was noticeable at WOT [top-end]... though, regrettably, I never dynoed it with the FlowTechs on.

Pros: Permitting the exhaust gases to bypass the "muffled" stage of an exhaust is amazing on all levels. Top end HP is noticeable. Tone is sweet at WOT.

Cons: A cop magnet. Electric cutouts can be [relatively] expensive installed, especially with a "true" dual exhaust system [$300.00 - $400 wiring, switch, flanges, valves etc:]. Manual cutouts WILL become a PITA after a while in terms of "****ion" so please don't bother. Installation is not [really] a DIY. Sound is obnoxious at WOT after a while.

THIS video will give you an idea of how they'll sound on a '05 Goat, even though it's not an exact indication in tone or sound output. Mine were a little louder.

Good luck.

Here's an explaination another member posted on the other fourm I'm a member on [LS1GTO] --

The purpose of the exhaust cutout is to bypass the remaining exhaust system after the point at which the cutout is installed [after the catback and before the muffler]. When you bypass the remaining exhaust system you are making it easier for the engine to get rid of the exhaust gases. Therefore, you will gain horsepower and torque by making it easier for your engine to work. The factory exhaust system, for example, is restrictive and holds back the full potential of it. Exhaust cutouts (electric) will allow you to convert to a wide open, unobstructed exhaust system with the flip of a dash-mounted switch.

Example: Take a straw and blow through it as hard as you can. Then open your mouth as wide as possible and blow as hard as you can. Notice how much easier it is to exhale with your mouth wide open? Think of your muffler as the straw through which your engine has to blow. Now think of the cutout as the engine being able to open its "mouth" to exhale easier. More output equates to, well, more output.
