Tire recall/warranty
Tire recall/warranty
Ive been a member for awhile but don't post much, anyhow I had to deal w/ the Ford service guys and wanted to pass along some info.
First I have a 2005 Lariat that I bought new in Aug/Nov 04 and about a year after driving it home I received a letter from Ford saying they were going to extend the factory warranty on my trucks tires from 12k/1yr to 36k/3yrs, so when 28k and 2.5 years rolled around I noticed the tires were wearing funny and were chopping on the outside of all 4 tires so I called the 1800 customer # and was told to bring it down to the dealership so they could inspect the tires. BTW the warranty was extended for uneven tire wear, harshness of ride and or vibration.
So before dropping off the truck I check all 4 tires for psi and I note a 35psi on all.
After lunch I go by the shop and the service guy asks me what I use the truck for and I tell him to pickup groceries and drive to work which is 30 miles round trip 50/50 freeway/city. Then he tells me I over inflated the tires to 45psi and thats why they are junk and he couldn't find any harshness or vibe.
Well I explain that if I over inflated the tires that much the center would be worn but that isn't the case and then I took the mech along for a vibe ride (which alot of us know is around 80mph) but the heavy traffic doesn't allow for any speeds over 75 and I wasn't able to get the rear end to start skipping..oh well.
So back at the shop the service writer again tells me he cant find a vibe and because he doesn't know if I rotated my tires when the factory says to; he cant help me.
Well just so happens I have a 1 year maintenance plan with my truck that was a 1 weekend deal back in the day which I showed him my receipt and told him that if the tires wernt rotated it was because they didn't do it at which time he tried to explain that I got over on a few oil changes because I wasn't supposed to bring it in every 3k but should have done it every 5k so when the 10k rolled around and they didn't want to see my truck until 12k they forgot to do the 10k which called for tire rotation.
Well my service writer then tells me to go home because he has to order my tires (which I know he was just looking to get some breathing room and find a way out of this mess). so a few days later he calls me back and says the letter was sent by mistake and I shouldn't have gotten that letter in the first place and again he cant help me.
A phone call to Ford later and they tell me they will take care of it and at this point I'm waiting for the service manager to call me back. The service writer called yesterday and said that the company is going to get me some new tires and to just stand-by. The time from first phone call till now is 2 weeks.
Just letting folks know if you got a letter like mine its real and don't give up until the get it right.

just over a year ago, my dealer (not the same one I purchased my truck new from) changed my tires out for free under that tire warranty with no questions asked at all. They just had rapid wear....nearly worn after only 16k miles. of course they put the same old crappy BFG's on there. I'm at 25k miles now and this 2nd set is starting to wear some already.
Well I did get new tires on my F150 after fighting with the dealer I just went to Ford and they took care of it, finally a guy calls me up the day after the dealer agrees to fix the issue and I told him everything was great except the service guy was treating me like a crook so he had them align my truck which more than made up for the service guys attitude.

My BFGs are fine . . . .
My odometer just rolled over 40,000 and I still have the factory original set of "crappy" BFG Rugged Trails on my FX4. There's still treadlife left, though I might replace them before next winter's snow. I run 35 psi front & rear.
I also only rotated them once at 20,000 miles. My theory is that no matter how many times you rotate them, in the end they'll spend half their time at one end of the truck and half their time at the other, so I just do it once, at approximately half of their life.
