tachometer

stupid question i bought the stx and it has no tach not a problem until recently i started realizing i would like to have one. the problem is that no one seems to know how to install one in our trucks because we have a distributorless engine so if any one can point me in the direction of a good tach to mount on my dash and where to wire it I would deeply appreciate it.

ChrisAdams has one on his STX. Might try searching for some of his posts. Also, the EDGE programmer has one in it as one of the 19 gauges you can monitor. That's probably the easiest way to add it.

If you have the 4.6L V8 the easiest way to get a tach would be buying a Edge programmer. The tach is one of the display's like previously stated, plus you get better performance and fuel mileage. You win all the way around.

What does EDGE do exactly? Can I put it on my truck (year 2000)? How much does it cost?

I have an STX and there IS a tach on that model truck....just hold in the trip button while you start the truck and then scroll through the options and you will come across the tach. oh ya I have been kicking the thought of an edge for my 4.6 I guess I want to ask the guys with the 4.6 does it make a world of difference like it does for the 5.4 guys?

This is the first I have heard any mention of seeing the tach this way and I went out to have a look for myself. Sure enough you are exactly correct. There are a whole mess of options in that thing. This will probably be very useful to some people. Although I do think it is a little small to keep an eye on it all the time while driving but still very useful. Still love my edge though. It's not as noticeable of a difference as with the 5.4 but it does some good ****. The response is awesome and the truck is just fined tuned much better IMO. You can definately tell with the WOT shifting and the more power the tuner adds.

since you have a 4.6 I would get the edge programmer. If you had the 4.2, I definitely recommend the ScanGauge II.

I installed my edge a few days ago. I was skeptical and the only reason I bought one was cause I got a good deal on it ($200) and I wanted the gauges. I didn't notice much of a difference on level 1 but I was pleasantly surprise with level 2. The truck seemed to have a lot more low-end "off the line" power and the shift points seemed better suited for my driving style. I really do feel like it "woke" my truck up. I haven't tried the level 3 tune yet but I've been happy with the programmer so far. I'd say it's definitely worth the money especially if you don't have a tach.
