? for all of those with auxiliary lights
I just got my 06 front bumper with fog lights and FX2 chin spoiler installed today. (BTW, the list of necessary parts on here is
for the swap) and I was wondering what y'all have done to hook up your auxiliary lights. My truck doesn't have fog lights from the factory, but extra lighting is always a plus. Where'd you get your power supply from? Where'd you put your switch? Has anybody put a switch where the cheesy little coin holder in the dash is? I want to do it right without lighting the truck on fire!
-Sorry about the long rambling post.

Personally, I think one of the best places to install the switch in the cab is right next to the cigarette lighter, below your climate controls. The hole is already predrilled, you just need to take an exacto knife and trim the plastic cover (take off the radio trim panel, look at the inside, you'll see what I'm talking about)
Now of course, this all depends on what options your truck has... there are three mounting holes in the panel, and on my XLT the cig lighter is in the middle, but in some trucks I have seen the cig lighter on the far left hole, and the backup sensor control on the far right, with the hole in the middle empty.
Anyway, I like this spot because there are several switches out there that are the right size and fit this spot perfectly, and as such look stock and much cleaner then some dash installs I've seen. Secondly, if I ever decide to change anything, this panel can be replaced for cheap (between 10-20 bucks on ebay) whereas most dashs are neither cheap nor easy to replace. In the end, it's really a matter of personal tastes. Good luck to you, whatever you decide.

I purchased PIAA 525 Series lights and mounted them on my Manik grill guard. As far as the power source goes, I attached them straight to the battery and my headlights. This way they turn off when my headlights are off.
The switch was ran though the firewall and up next to the steering column on the left side. I used 2 part poxy and mounted it next to my adjustable pedal switch. It cannot be seen by me or passengers. The nice thing is that I can see the reflection from my drivers side window and can tell when the high beams or low beams are on. It is out of the way and out of sight figuratively speaking.

When I get my new Street scene grille with lights inside, I'll most likely wire those into my hi beam switch through a relay. That way, they kick on when my hi lights are on, but will automatically kick off when I put on my high beams off.
I've got a month before I can afford them, so I've got some time to kick this idea around, but it makes pretty good sense to me at this point.

I used something like these:

Except mine didn't light up when it was turned on. I think I picked it up at shucks for a 5-10 dollars. It was pretty cheap, and was exactly the right size. It was shucks or nappa, one of the two, although I'd imagine Pep Boys or Autozone would probably carry something like this too.

Perfect... simple is always good.
Not sure if you picked some up yet, but wire loom makes the install look so much cleaner. Some folks are fine with wires being bare, I'm not one of them. It's relatively cheap, plus it will protect the wires themselves. Don't forget to pick up some zip ties too to keep it all tucked and secured. My rule of thumb has always been: the more time you spend to make sure everything is perfect, the happier you'll be with it in the long run.
Good luck to ya

i used a small switch with an LED light in it, when making your hole just go slow and make it fit as tight as posible... it really looks factory when you are done. the only thing i dont like about mine is that the dang led is so bright at night LOL
you really should install them using a relay activated by another switched source. if you just put them on a switch, it will be easy to leave them on when leaving the vehicle(learned this the hard way on my last truck)
the signal wire can be from anything that is activated by a switch, i used the signal wire from the parking lamps so that my foglights automatically come on when i switch on the parking lamps. you could use say the ignition wire in your column or the switched power wire going to your head unit. this way the foglights can come on at any time when the key is in the on position. the foglights do not draw their power from this wire, but it tells them when they can be activated by the relay.
if you still want a switch, you can still install one to interupt the signal wire signal. this way, you can turn the foglights on/off whenever you want, but dont have to worry about leaving them on when you turn the truck off
hope this makes sense. i came up with a diagram that shows more detailed wiring with the relay
