I just got a replacement complete front grill from a guy. I was hoping it was the smooth painted kind, but its just the stock. But is it possible to sand down the main part of the grill and have it smooth painted black?

 

What about getting a painted King Ranch grille and painting that? I believe it's ~$130-140 from fordparts.com and come with the chrome trim.

 

i've seen it done before on mirrors and other rough plastic trim pieces. it'll take some time, but it can absolutely be done. i think you'll want to use a primer that's made for plastic as well. i read somewhere they have more flex in them for plastic apps.

 

Look for SALFX4's gallery, I believe that is how he has his name. Any way he has a picture of his buddies truck (silver) with the grill painted.

 

I ordered a KR grill for my Lariat back in 05. The KR grill was the same bar grill as the FX and XL. I ordered it from our local dealer, they simply just sent out the grill to body shop and had it painted arz beige.
