anyone have this gauge pod?
anyone have this gauge pod?

i think it looks pretty tight.. and is a conveinient use of space.. since that cubby is a waste anyways..
just not sure of what guages i would put in there.. even if iust put liek a amp temp gauge.. and another gauge, and then used the middle slot a a place for a switch.. or something.. that would be cool..
what do u all think?..

Please don't be one of those people that just gets functional items because it's "cool" and have no idea what it does or no use for it. Gauges have their uses, and in stock form, or even with some mods the only gauge I could ever see anyone actually needing would be possbly a trans temp gauge if you do a lot of towing. Air fuel ratio would really only be a necessity if you are boosted or running a LOT of bolt ons because it is critical to prevent you from frying your pistons. A boost gauge is useless without boost. A fuel pressure gauge is also pretty much useless unless you are running an aftermarket pump or injectors or some type of fuel management unit (FMU) to raise fuel PSI. There are lots of other gauges out there too but they serve a purpose. I'm not trying to sound like a u know what but I don't know how many times I have seen people that have gauges and you ask them what they are for and why do they need it and they say........IDK I just thought it looked cool.
YES SIR!!!...
but is it allrgiht if i learn about them.. since i dont know about them.. and you dont know if i need them or not..
i love working on my truck, so there for, i look for other things that i can work on, and that would be different.. i have only seen one truck that i can recall with a gauge pod in it.. so it would be somethign different and like i was saying.. an amp temp guage would be nice.. and from what i have LEARNED is that air/fuel ratio would be good also..
half the reason of this site is to widen ur knowledge about stuff like this.. then ppl like you come in and flame the hell out of it.. honestly.. **** THAT!

In the end, it's your truck, do with it as you please. If you want to put gauges in there, do it. If you put them in cuz you NEED them, great.... if you put them in cuz you WANT them, fine as well.
But I agree, we're all here to learn.... I've learned more than I probably ever wanted to know about my truck on here. Good luck with the install if you decide to do it... look forward to the pics if you do.
Dude, I didn't mean to sound like an ***......I'm sorry if I did, trust me I aint like that. An amp temp gauge would be a good idea, I didn't see that in your first post. I have a gauge pod on the A-pillar by autometer and I have a boost gauge in it and a/f ratio....but not a regular a/f ratio gauge. Standard A/F gauges are narrow band and only read a small percentage of the possible air fuel that you could have, it will probably just peg rich if you step on it and you really don't know 'how' rich that really is. The really NICE air fuel ratio gauges are called wideband and operate with thier own sensor that must be welded in the exhaust somewhere. It has a little control box and the gauge is like a little control unit that can display the actual air fuel ratio in numbers and it is VERY accurate. Innovate makes one, that's the one I have, and it is really pricey at over $400 for everything. I really need that accuracy with the blower cause I need to make sure im running just south of 11:1 AF when boosting so I don't fry anything. Here is a pic for ya of where it's mounted. Again, sorry about any hard feelings.....
Gauges can be real useful depending on what you are trying to monitor. If you get them, make sure they are hooked up.. that's ricey not to hook them up.
Air/Fuel is useless if it's narrowband. Wideband A/F is the way to go. You don't really need this unless you're running FI or Nitrous, with tuning of course.. don't want to lean her out in cold weather or whatever.
Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure.. pretty useful, the factory oil pressure gauges are just on/off switches that the dash gauge just moves up to the same spot each time when there's a certain amount of oil pressure above the "Low" mark on the switch. Fuel pressure, well.. if you have no fuel pressure, you have no fuel, or not enough. Again.. Fuel Pressure isn't really required in a non-mod motor. Fuel pressure is more needed with boosted and nitrous applications.
Oil Temp, nah.. don't really need that, Diff temp, nah...,Trans temp.. sure, though trans temps on most applications only get 70-90 degrees fahrenheit hotter than the outside ambient tempature, even when hauling heavy or towing, the cooler will be sufficent enough to cool the fluid.. if not, you should consider what you're towing and where you're towing it and how to improve or do something else. Water temp might be useful than the dummy gauge which is a CHT reading figured out and converted to Water temp. OR.. if using Autometer temp gauges, get yourself a multiple position toggle switch and install three senders to all these locations and with the flip of a siwtch, you get each different measurement of tempature on whatever you assigned the position of each switch location.
Boost? No Blower.. no turbo, no boost. You can hook up a vacuum gauge, that can help you with diagnosing problems, and even help you somewhat monitor your fuel mileage if you're going to look at it a lot when you're on and off the throttle.
More accurate voltmeter wouldn't hurt.
EGT gauge isn't really needed either, not going to get that hot without some major modifications, and you're not a diesel either.
I'm a big fan of motor/trans instrumentation, why not know what's going on? Ignorance isn't bliss. Usually everything is always good to go, but it's still a piece of mechanical equipment controlled by electronics, anything can happen.

mat05fx4.. no worries.. i think i was havin a bad day or something.. my fualt for snappin at ya... and thanks for the tips and the pic.. i knew this mod would be $$$.. but.. i dunno if im ready/need to spend the money on that kind of mod.. like you said.. and i will admit. i dont really need it.. but i think it would be nice/usefull to have..
but now i know more about it.. so.. no matter what i gained somethign out of this..
i still am thinking about a amp temp gauge tho.. i just kina wish they werent digital.. i like the other kind better.. IMO..
thanks guys
