Coil Pack/Injector Problem Symptoms?

What does it feel like when a coil pack is going out? Do they just fail or is it gradual?

I think your engine will be pretty rough running, but will still operate.

Either/or. They can either gradually fail, and cause an intermittent or random misfire, or they can catastrophically fail and cause a dead skip on that cylinder, and usually cause several other problems from the large amount of RF interference they generate (things like causing the transmission to shift abnormally, strange coolant temp gauge readings, affecting other coils causing multiple random misfires, etc).

My #3 and #4 cylinder coil packs were replaced at 16,000 miles. Tests showed RF interference for both. My symptoms were that the truck would start missing radomnly when in drive (didn't happen in neutral). Problem got worse to where eventually the truck actually died while stopped at a red light.

It's not a good feeling.....took me a while to get back the confidence in my truck!

Thanks guys... We'll see what the deal is with mine on Monday.

It started missing at highway speeds... pulled off and it went away (flashed CEL but registered no codes)...

About 40 mins further, the missing got worse and a bit more consistant... then, it started missing big time...

Pulled into a rest area... it died.

No crank/no start now.

Verrrrrry worried about this situation. Thoughts?

I wouldn't be too terribly worried, I'm sure you still have a warranty.

Hmm, could be many things, but it could be just a sensor (cam or crank pos.)

My SWAG is injector(s) sticking. Especially on an '05+ engine.

Probably. Or worst case, a connecting rod is bent to the point where it's contacting the skirt of the block, preventing the engine from turning over.

Check your E-mail, BTW.

Yes.

Still under warranty.

Zero chance that the AF1 caused the problem. We all know that injectors are a consistant problem on these trucks (which, after talking with several folks, is almost certainly what it is -- Quintin has been VERY helpful during this situation)...

hmmm...well best of luck getting it resolved. Was this on the way back from TP?

Let me know how it goes with the dealer and their response to the tuning and AF1. Obviously to me and others its not the AF1 and Mike's tuning is very safe, but you know how some dealers can be.

That has to be one steep repair bill for someone to pay.
