Miles do no impact a battery. Age and temperature have more of an impact. On an 04, the battery could easily be approaching 4 years since it was manufactured.

If my stock battery had made it 30k miles, I'd be ecstatic... but it died within the first 6 mos of ownership.

If you get a couple years or more from a stock battery you are ahead of the game. Your battery is also living on borrowed time.

Any batteries seem to be better than others? Optima or Motorcraft?

I'll count my blessings then...I bought a DieHard from Sears. No more problems.

My parents just bought a brand new Explorer and the batt died within the first month that they had it. I have a 04 scab and it still has the original batt in it. I suppose that some batts last longer than others. I plan on getting an optima soon to replace mine.

I wonder if the quality of Motorcraft batteries has gone downhill? The original battery in my 97 F150 lasted 7 years and 7 Maine winters.

I just replaced mine due to it being dead. I got a "blem" Optima for 35.00 at Interstate Wharehouse. I got 50,000 miles out of my stock battery! The Optima is great especially if you have a system.

The single biggest enemy of your battery is a temperature extreme (hot or cold). Since you live in Minnesota, that probably had something to do with it.

I really like Optima batteries but have never had one in a vehicle. The USAF uses them exclusively in ground equipment.

KC-10 FE out...
